I saw in my Red Angus journal........that semen is available on Rolling deep. Is he any good? I saw a few sons in the pen bull show in Denver last year and loved them. He is supposed to be out of a line of excellent udders and fleshing ability.

Put some of your tail head supplies on them. They should look better.

Do you have any Fullblood anything or just registered commercial cattle still.

I'm not that enthused about the y118 bull, but I went to the Bieber site to look and got interested in one of the foundation sires Bieber Make Mimi 7249, and got curious who BJR was in the pedigree.
Seems like there is a story there...would someone fill me in on the Boot Jack Ranch history?
Still looking around I found this Axtell bull that goes to the same BJR Make My Day.
Then there is a picture of some cows from BJR that were bought by Fischer Red Angus in 1988.

Sure seems like a nice little cow, but it looks more like a Shorthorn to me. Red angus usually have a different kind of head.  Not being rude to Fischer,  just asking about types.

Later.. Okay, I see that Make My Day is famous. But I am still curious about Boot Jack.

I did homework on the old BJR bulls and it looks like the buffalo butts made some real nice cows and calving ease and udders have stayed with the generations. Derivative bulls have a lot of muscle, but retain the maternal genetics...?
However, I do not think Rollin Deep has much to do with this breeding, so this is all tangential.
BJR Make My Day 981:
The outcross choice to add marbling to any pedigree.
Make My Day daughters have well shaped, snug udders with small teats.

BJR Payday

BJR RAMBLER 5162: Rambler is known to be one of the best female producers in the breed. He was originally purchased from Bootjack in 1992 by Green Mountain, Van Dyke Angus and Accelerated Genetics as a proven sire with daughters in production. His daughters were so impressive, the decision to purchase him was easy! Besides his beautiful females, Rambler consistently sires easy calving calves.

I can't find a picture of the transition, Rambler 1000, supposedly calming ease/good udders

but somehow they got to this....

Red Crowfoot Rambler 1038L was sold in our ‘02 bull sale to Chickadee Farms. We purchased him back after we saw what he did for Jim. This is one of the heaviest muscled bulls in the breed, extremely easy fleshing and athletic. No matter how many cows he services, or ground he has to cover, he stays thick and muscled. He has sons working in several notable herds such as Bar-E-L , Lazy S, and Chickadee Farms.

Red Crowfoot 83X who was sold in our 2011 sale for $12, 000 to WJ Ranch, is a thick moderate framed son of CBR Rumbler 8586, He is an outcross sire out of a beautiful smaller framed Crowfoot 6004S cow.  Crowfoot 83X carries such notable Black Angus genetics such as: N Bar EXT, Basin Max 104J, Papa Optima, Windy Ridge Commodore, Band 234 of Ideal, OCC Moonshine, OCC Joker, Willabar Excel, N Bar Impact, Shoshone PP 7105 and Nugget 801X of JRS. 83X:  EPDs are in the top 10% of the Breed for birth weight, milk and stay-ability.

I don't give a dang about individuals.....I'm about sire groups. Show me a pen of 5 or fifty bulls sired by one bull. I think I saw something special in the pen show last year......but I would like to see more.

Cliff Haugen was the originator of the Boot Jack Ranch and ran it up to his death. His program was geared heavily towards the females and somewhat towards calving ease. He did produce some of the breeds leading (at the time) female producing bulls. Several of the breeds leading female lines have roots in the Boot Jack herd (ie Lakota, Tilly, etc.) Make My Day, Ram, JR 107, Rambler, Yogo and several other bulls were all produced there and have influenced the breed well past Cliff's passing.
