Would you keep a 50% Maine Anjou heifer with a 120lb birth weight for a replacement ?

I have 2 Wave On Wave daughters that are 10 years old still producing calves every season. They were both 100 lbs BW. Never have pulled a calf out of them. One had a Broker bull that had BW of 110 unassisted. Just sharing my experience.

Hmmm nice bull..

I have a kadabra cow that just had a 70 lb heifer calf...

I have kept a 110 pound shorthorn heifer calf and bred her to a low birth weight bull every time bc of her high birth weight and every calf has been 70-85 lbs  :)

Different genetics though...

From my experience once yo have a high birth weight in the pedigree...…..it can reappear 2 or 3 generations at a inconvenient time. It takes at least 3 generations to breed it out.

Kept a Critical Mass heifer. 128# bw. Bred her to a bet the ranch calving ease Red Angus bull. Had to use my Ford Ranger to get the calf out dead of course. She ended up taking a twin I had and guess what happened the next year!!!! DOA calf again being bred calving ease also that time.

Had a 112# Simmental x Shorthorn heifer this year. Soon as I weighed her she went on the sale barn list, NEVER AGAIN!
