bloat and rumensin crc bolus

I have a bull calf that keeps bloating(3rd time) and we have tried drenching him with dawn, and baking soda.it helped a little but he has never gotten completely better.we gave him probiotics this morning and got a bloat block. not sure if that is going to work but we don't know what else to do and don't want to lose him. He only bloats on the left side never the right. I read about the rumensin bolus but cant find much info about them. does anyone know where I could get them or any info about them? thanks!

Try any of the Vita Ferm products. Amaferm is what really helped a heifer a mine back way before Sure Champ was even popular.

Has this calf ever had pneumonia or been sick in general?  We had a calf a couple of years ago that started bloating and it turned out that the same bug that can cause pneumonia had actually lodged down his esophagus and damaged the vagus nerve, which prevented him from belching and bringing up his cud.  My vet diagnosed it.  We treated with antibiotics and then had to install a trocar for a couple weeks, and after it kept plugging up, had to put a tube down his throat about 3x per day to let the air out.

If that isn't the issue, your feed dealer should be able to find rumensin pellets that you can mix with grain.

Have you ever tried Conklin Probiotic products?  We use it on all of our show animals and have great luck with it.  We use the Fastrack Microbial Pack daily and the Fastrack Ruminant gel if we have one that bloats.

He had some sort or respiratory problem back in march but he is still chewing his cud. anyone know anything else I can try now that I would have around the house. im going to be gone tomorrow and want to know that he is going to be ok while im gone

If you have a good large animal vet. Seek their counsel first.  Plus, I don't think you will be able to find the Rumensin CRC bolus. I don't know if they are even sold in the states anymore. (Don't quote me on that).  Had trouble finding them a year ago...... Never found them to be frank.  If you want to try to isolate your problem, you can put him on free choice hay only with a good dose of probiotic paste for a couple of days. Then start him back on his ration and try adding Sure Champ to his feed. The bloat block won't help unless he's exposed to legume/pasture.  Other causes could be finely ground feed or dusty feed. Try to isolate the potential source of your problem or see your vet.

I agree with obie105, the vitaferm products have worked for us.  Our fair steer has bloated up bad 2-3 times this year.  We first tried holding back feed etc, but it didn't help much.  Tried the VitaFerm VitaCharge bolus on a friend's recommendation and it worked like a charm. He was back to normal the next day.  Now when we see him start to get a little bloat we just give him a bolus and he's fine.  VitaFerm also has the VitaCharge mineral tub, which may have helped us with the continuing bloat issue but we are so close to fair now that I think we will just stick with what we are doing.

We tried the rumensin bloat boluses on chronic bloaters before and they worked so well. I can't remember the name but we just asked for "rumensin bloat boluses" at our local vet and they ordered them for us. They have huge plastic wings on them and you need to buy the applicator too but they work like a charm. I'd certainly use them again if I had another chronic bloater. Good luck.

If your using elevator mix feed I have got where I put 1 LB. MANNA E PER ton of feed and have done it over 10 year's ....This product is similar to VITA-FERM and is simpler to use and cheaper and it is a prevention and you never see bloat ....
