Marijuana is free of nicotine and not as addictive as cigarettes. But just about everthing we do is addictive, though. At least everything that gives us some kind of pleasure. From foods to drinks including cola's. It is the physical addiction in nicotine that needs to be understood in order to help get people off.  I think better " access" to good proven programs are important in order to help people with this addiction. As an ex- smoker I feel most people who smoke want to kick the habit but many times are afraid to ask for help. I know I needed help and it was next to impossible to quit on my own.

My bad. I meant tar & high levels of carcinogens . It may not be as addictive as tobacco, but I believe the health consequences are as bad or worse.JMO

Correct Doc, in fact a lot of the compounds in pot I believe have not been studied as far as long term effects are concerned.  The 'mind altering' ingredient is stored in fatty tissues, the brain being one of them!  Apparently that is why longer term/frequent users thereof get that 'dazed' look.  Apparently most 'hard' drug users started with casual use of pot!  It would be interesting to see what percentage started with cigarettes and/or underage drinking!
I am not more 'scientific' as it is a while since I studied it at university.

I dipped for about 11 years. Was dipping a can a day. Then my wife told me we were gonna have a baby. I decided I couldn't aford snuff and diapers also. I wasn't gonna be one of these people who are getting governmant "help" and doing a habit like that. Wow was it hard! I had benn off the stuff for about a year and half when went golfing with a friend. It was about 95degrees in Texas and I got soo sick. Threw up good. That was one of the best things that could have happened to me. Havent had a dip sence then. It has been about 11 years since I first quite, and I still get the urge every now and then. Especially when I'm working with animals or after a good meal! My fatherinlaw smokes. I hate it, but understand how hard it is to quite. He has tried maney times.

Originally from 2009, nice.

It's been 3 years since this topic started, still 3 years I haven't started because of what my dad did (lol) (lol) (lol)
I'm almost 20 and a lot of my friends from high school picked up smoking. I've dropped 60lbs since 2009 while my friends can't even finish a double header on the slow pitch field. Feels good to be the athlete now

my daddy broke me of that stuff at an early age. he made me eat it then puke it back up  (lol) good times good times

:)  My dad tried to fix me.  He let my cousin give me a small amount of chew when I was 6 (this was back when it was still legal.  I chewed it and spit all the way home and spit it out before mama caught me.

In high school I chewed some of the weaker stuff off and on when bored, like driving the tractor and such- Then my buddy did fixed me for life.  He had a plug of some mail order stuff in his truck, somebody had left.  I never realized that there could be that much difference.  Wow!  My world began spinning and then I felt sick, and then sicker.  I didn't toss my cookies that night, but I have every time since when I tried anything.  Now I'm glad it worked out that way.  He is coming over tomorrow, he still thinks it funny and asks me every time he sees me if I want a chew.

I used to have a pretty bad drug problem in my college days and after. I smoked pot, coke, acid, mushrooms, you name it. I quit it all pretty easy except for the chew. No matter what I try I gotta have my Copenhagen. I made it two days once and I was a complete wreck. Nicotine is a nasty nasty drug. Chewing on one right now. Ugh.

I'm in my 50's and I quit about 5 years ago when the doctor found melanoma on my bottom lip. They took 3/4 of an inch out of the middle, 2 lymph nodes and all of my nicotine habit. After more cat scans than I want to remember , 6 nuclear body scans and a whole shit load of doctors, I'm cancer free.
