Steve and Ron haven't been partners for quite awhile now.
The Bonham crew (among many others) does indeed do what they do very well, I agree completely. And they (again among many others) can do just about anything to do with show cattle, not just buying, selling and clipping.
But I think more to the point of the original posters question - yes, some show steers here in the states may never leave a traders barn. Much more commonly, they do go home with the exhibitor until some point (like say the final 30 or maybe even 90 days before their terminal show) when they go back to be fine tuned (cool room, etc...). Usually the exhibitor still spends some time with the steer regularly (maybe even daily if time/distance allows). Yes, in most cases this is against the rules of the shows, but when you look at how much time the exhibitor still might spend caring for the animal, the amount of time it's actually away from the exhibitors home, and so on, it manages to become enough a gray area that it's really hard to do much about it. Whether we like it or not, it's something we have to deal with, so we do.
