Breeding options?

What do you think would work on this heifer? We are looking at breeding her a little early as to get her to belly down. I am looking at angus or lim-flex but with limited knowledge on either I am looking for options. She is TH and PHA free daughter of Monopoly out of an Icepick cow. She is very stout, and square on all corners just a little shorter fronted and straighter shouldered with a tighter middle. Based on the cow she's out of I think she will eventually get the belly just will take some time. Anyways what do y'all think?

Mercedes Benz to pretty-up that front end.  Will also promote good structure and a decent shot at a good middled one as well.  A heifer calf would have some value if the dice roll out right.

Since she is a Monopoly get that pelvis measured before you decide on a bull.

How early is a little early assuming you are shooting for her to calve around 2.

Not proven but showing a 63lb. BW. My favorite new Angus calf with an interesting pedigree. Maybe better for second calf until proven.

Agree, take pelvic measurement first. I would not breed her early just to belly her down in hope for a better placing... That's not being logical, IMO.

Connealy Right Answer 746, http://genex.crinet.com/beef/index.php?action=DETAIL&code=1AN01146&lang=EN is what we have used on our club calf heifers this year.  Clubby heifers are Boardwalk, Eye Candy, and Monopoly sired.  We've had three so far and used sexed male semen to make steers out of them. 

Calves were all nice shape, roughly 60-75 lbs each.

That probably is a better kind of bull (as opposed to Skyfall) for her first calf. Better calving ease EPD's for sure. Also a nice pedigree. How easily did they calve?

Angus bulls are a good options when you get these heifers loaded with clubby genetics.

With the  right answer calves have you seen any straight shouldered or short fronts on them? I was always thinking angus but would entertain clubby bulls

Ryan as you could see I disregarded your comment. I'm not looking to argue on something you have no control over. Your comment had nothing to do with this topic, I respect your opinion however.

Well then you should be able to infer by my reply that, no, I think it's a terrible idea for you to try to breed your heifer at 12 months. 18-24 months is more along the lines of when want to breed one that's built how you've described.

Anything bull has a few generations of <75lb bws would be a suitable choice.  Breed to one of those clubby bulls being suggested and compound the risk that are already pilled up against you.

Ryan, I meant in the way of breeding heifers in no way is she completely built like a market heifer my apologies. As far as breeding her early and the bull I never insinuated on breeding her clubby if you will refer back to the original post you can see that I said angus or lim-flex. If I was not showing her and had all intentions of just keeping her a cow yes I would might wait until 18-24 months. I am not sure what I have done to get on your bad side but it seems that you don't like the way I run my cattle or myself. Based off your responses to my posts.

We've kept a few Monopolys for replacement.  We won't have any Monopoly first calf heifers this year for a good reason.

I wouldn't take the chance on breeding her early.  There would be more than one factor working against you.  Milking ability, calving out of sync with the rest of first calf heifers, and being fed for showing come to mind.

I only have a couple of 3 and 4 year old Monopolys because fertility hasn't been there.

I know all Angus are not calving ease but I would stick with something with a super low bw even if you breed her at the typical age. I've never kept a calf out of Old School I also never touched a one.  I wondered if a few of the heifers knew they had a calf.

I will be interested to know what you decide and how it goes.

One of the three heifers had a bit of help to calve out at the end, nothing serious.  Calves were vigorous and quick to nurse.

We chose Right Answer as what we think is the best calving ease of the sexed bulls available to us in our area.

If not going sexed there are many more Angus options.
