Bull for Hannibal cow

I have a young cow out of Hannibal that is a bit tall/big for most clubby-oriented judges or breeders. 

I am looking for a bull to:
1.Moderate the calf's fram
2.Make a more marketable calf
3.A splash of color on the body wouldn't hurt.

Last year she had a Shorthorn Plus out of JPJ that is moderate in frame and quite thick. 

Here is the cow as a first calver and her JPJ steer calf at a year.

I am looking at Monopoly or MAB.

I would appreciate your thoughts.

I would say Bodacious will do 2 maybe 3 of those...I think he'd put color on face not body. I think he'd be a good option. Good looking cow too!

Walks Alone Mature


I guess when I see the two I would go with Walks alone. freak for muscle mass and body. I thought MAB looked very small.

At stud they both looked great, personally I didn't think walks alone was any bigger than MAB at all. In terms of rib, MAB was also better. I worry about belly with walks alone when used on a Hannibal cow. I am a walks alone fan don't get me wrong but there are some things MAB is better at.

What did you mean about belly?  Depth of flank?

WA is a freak for muscle.  Would like to see MAB in similar condition.  This pic shows him a little fatter.

I may prefer MAB's rump and tail set.  WA looks to be shorter rumped and has a strange looking tail set.

Do these bulls sire calves that finish evenly and marble well?

I assume each bull is a carrier.   

To me, the cow looks like a carrier, but she should be clean out of Hannibal.  I have not had her tested.  There are some blanks on the dam side that I am still checking into.

Just meant belly by volume and capacity. MAB will give you more of a monopoly body type while walks alone will sire more of a heat wave body type. Yes both bulls are carriers. Test your cow, but there are some crazy hairy Hannibal cows.

We have a new fly in the ointment-

The maternal Grandsire is Heatseeker.  She may well be dirty.  (1/4 chance)
Will be checking her now to see her status.
If she is clean, I'll still stay away from Heatwave genetics.

Now looking for a clean or non-heatwave bull to sire marketable calves.  I have a couple guys interested in flushing the cow.

I would say your cow is probably already crossed up pretty good,soi would suggestusing a purebred bull on her.I would personally go with a pure maine,or angus.A couple months ago i probably wouldn't have said that but after calving out a half dozen crossed up clubby heifers bred angus,the calves ain't that bad.I think we all forget  when you get to many ingrediants in the pot you start to lose some of the flavor you are trying to keep.
