Buyers set record at junior livestock show

Buyers broke another all-time record at the 39th annual Lamar County Junior Livestock Show, shelling out $180,875 for top market animals.
Sales in 2005 totaled $165,750 with $152,275 paid in 2004 and $148,000 in 2003.
The grand champion steer, shown by Alicia Lang of Prairiland FFA, daughter of Kim Lang, brought $3,300 with a bid from Valley Feed Mill.
The reserve champion lamb, shown by Kelsey Evans of Chisum FFA, daughter of Donald and Jeri Beth Evans, topped the sale with $5,100 paid by D&H Concrete and Hicks Muffler.
Twenty-five steers brought $66,350; with 35 goats totaling $35,457; 27 lambs, $29,800; 22 hogs, $23,250; five dairy heifers, $16,925; six broilers, $5,300 and five rabbits, $3,775.
The grand champion dairy heifer shown by Hallie Bolton of Chisum FFA, daughter of Brent and Deborah Bolton, brought $4,100 paid by Brookshire’s and Super 1 Foods stores.
Cattleman’s Livestock Commission paid $3,800 for the reserve champion dairy heifer shown by Bolton sibling Madison Bolton.
Jamasco, Big County and Paris Body Works teamed with a bid of $3,000 for the reserve champion steer shown by Scott Landers of Chisum FFA, son of Jim and Kay Landers.
Pettit Machinery paid $3,200 for the grand champion goat shown by Rex West of Chisum FFA, son of Cody and Lalonna West.
Katilyn Pendleton of Roxton FFA, daughter of Karen Pendleton, presented the reserve champion goat, which brought $1,400 from Cypress Home Care.
Shelbie Monkres of Chisum FFA, daughter of Steve and Susan Monkres, presented the grand champion lamb with Paris Regional Medical Center paying $1,900 for the animal.
Campbell Soup paid $1,800 for the grand champion hog shown by Walker Wharton of Roxton FFA, son of Wilson and Tracy Wharton.
East Texas Ford paid $1,000 for the grand champion rabbit shown by Lamar County 4-H Club member Nathan Bass, son of Ronald and Misty Bass.
Crazy House Western Wear paid $1,300 for the grand champion pen of broilers raised by Michael Enox of Prairiland FFA, son of Glenda Boulware.
Larry’s Overhead Door teamed with James Hodge Motors to pay $1,275 for reserve champion broilers raised by Hannah Norwood of Prairiland FFA, daughter of Robin Norwood.
Platinum Home Health paid $1,200 for the reserve champion hog shown by Dustin Hindman of Lamar County 4-H, son of David and Rita Hindman.
Lamar National Bank of Reno paid $850 for the reserve champion rabbit shown by Miles Russell of North Lamar FFA, son of Mickey and Marla Russell
