buying a steer where do I look?

Looking for a show steer for my daughter to show next year. I have no idea where to even begin looking no local breeders that breed show or club calves. I am located in North Fl.

Show Steers are everywhere!  You must not be looking.  Seriously, let people know where you live?  I noticed on your profile you didn't list where you live. Northern Florida covers a lot of ground when you throw in the Panhandle.  You might want to start by searching for Floridans here on SP.  Good luck with your search!

I have been looking but since we are new to showing steers we do not know what to look for. I need someone to help find something. All the other 4Hers around here that show steers are very competetive which translates to not very helpful. We are without an Ag extension officer right now in our county. We have one that focuses on horses but unfortunately, our well loved AG agent passed away unexpectantly in October. I am locate in Northeast FL but we will travel a reasonable distance.

first I would find out when your final show is.  The calf needs to be 18-20 months old at that point of the final destination.  You might check on showsteers.com or edjecattle to find breeders within your area you want to look in.  Check out the winners page of the breeders you visit online. Breeders of quality will post victories.  First reccomendation on calf.  Make sure they are sound on feet and legs.  If you have not done this before seek out help.

I would start with the Steerplanet Classifieds.  Lots of calves for sale, and the breeders are supposed to be listing where the cattle are located.  Just figure out how far you would like to travel, and then happy searching.
