You know Ryan, I think they will be all over the board. I think a lot will depend on how good the calves are and if they are bred or not. I guess I'm going to go and check them out.
20 is a good looking cow.

Lot 42 looks to be a useful 'growthy' type of bull, would love to see him in the flesh!

I will be at Cagwin's sale next weekend. I expect it will have some good prices on the top end. In their past sales, I have been able to pick up some pretty good cows at very reasonable prices. I am expecting some of the better females that have bull calves may be the ones to watch.

The cattle look good. The Liquid Asset calves are really nice. Worst part is everything is under water up here. If I can help anyone here at the sale give me a call at 615-202-7106.

Very nice day at the sale today. I had a nice time seeing JIT and Doc even given the fact JIT thought my rare prime rib (like I like it)could be saved with a shot of penicillin! Average was 3200 and change. Nice cattle with JIT finding one really nice cow and Doc a whole load of top females.

Stumpy it was really good seeing you and JIT. There were some pretty good females there . JIT bought a real nice pair and I'm pleased with the ones we bought.

The pair I was liking ended up heading to TN. And the heifers I tried on we're a little to popular to head our way. I was very happy to hear what the new Secrataty had to say and had a great trip. Hope you guys made it home in good shape and look forward to the next visit.

Female wise, I liked Lot 23, tremendous length, an excellent topline and very feminine at the same time.

I hope a commercial breeder bought Lot 42, unless there was something which I couldn't see from the picture, he got a bargain and will be back for more because I would put money on the fact that he will produce smashing weaner calves!

we purchased lot 23 sight unseen, on the advice of someone at the sale, so it is nice to hear a positive opinion! we also purchased lots 17 and 37

23 looked like a good one too.  I would have sure been in one 20 at that price. Owell hindsight..

As far as 42, what you couldn't see if how he's been fed. I can only imagine the feed it took those genetics to get that cover.

It was good to see you and Doc as well! The Cagwin crew put together a good set of sale cattle, and I would have loved to see the remainder of the herd, but due to the wet conditions, it was impossible.  I went through the herd a year ago, and it is one of the most functional and practical sets of breeding females I  have seen in a while. The Byland Mission and Alta Cedar Top Dog females are a very complimentary set of working females.
After the sale I travelled to Ippensons to see a very good set of ET calves. Darrell also has a very good Saskvalley Pioneer 126P yearling bull that could do some good in many herds.
On the way to the St Louis airport this morning, I stopped at Moore's Shorthorns at Jerseyville, IL and got to see their good herd. They are blending genetics from most of the branches of the breed and it certainly appears to be working. They have an excellent set of calves on the ground and have some very good cattle being prepared for some summer and fall shows. I was also pleased to see the Marksman bull they purchased from us this spring, has acclimatized and has continued to develop well.
All in all, it was a nice getaway for a couple days but it is also nice to be back home. Tomorrow I set up 5 donors and about 35-40 recips. We had almost 4 inches of rain over the weekend, so it is going to be a muddy mess to get this done!

I see above that Lot 2 was twin to a bull.  I find that interesting.

Was she fertile or just sold as a show heifer?

When she came into the sale ring, it was announced that she was being sold as a " market heifer" as she had been twin to a bull calf. She was an excellent heifer and they tried to sell her split from her mother as she was a January heifer. She was put back with her mother and sold as a pair.  I thought this was a pretty good buy at $2500 for the pair.
