Calf Warmers ?

I've heard some talk on here how calf warmers are effective , just wondering about some building your own type ideas ? What has worked the best for the people that have built them ? Thanks

We had a calf box made out of an old big truck sleeper. They are completely insulated and hold the heat very well. A door is made over the big opening, and a sheet of plywood is placed where what used to be the bed. A heat light is put into the original sleepers lights (which have been rewired to a switch outside the sleeper). A cage is put over the bulb so that the calves can't hit it. We also put a ceramic heater in the other end. I can fit three calves in there very comfortably. We call it our life saver, there has been many times that we have put a calf in there and go back a couple of hours later and they are standing up bellering.

I use a mat type warmer in my calving stalls with good results. If  I need more heat , a hair dryer and a couple of heavy towels works well .

a plywood box with a heat lamp is plenty effective.

Now the truck sleeper is a pretty slick idea , especially for 2 or 3 at the same time !

Thread that Cathy start from good days gone by, but I wouldn't be without my calf box. They are great. Please read and note that the thing that I think makes them so good is that the warm air comes from below the calf. The small heaters are cheap @ Wal-Mart.

We also would not be without one.  that heat coming from bottom is so much quicker.
