Calf weaning by moon phase

For those of you that wean calves "by the sign of the moon," when is it recommended to wean in the upcoming week or 2?  We have a fall calf that we'd like to wean soon, and thought maybe we'd give it a try.

Looks like the next sign for weaning is April 15-22

When the sign is going  into or is in the feet.Closer to the feet the better.

In other words -- about 7-10 days PAST the full moon, we follow that for anything stressfull -- castrations too. We are at about 70 % moon now, 3-4 days to full -- and another week after "HE" will be less than 50% -- apparrently perfect at that point!

Can't say why it works, but our calves bellow less, and go to feed better -- if the moon is slightly dark, not too well lighted. Amazing stuff!

I absolutely swear by it! Misread the sign once and weaned about 4 days late. It took me a week to fix everything the calves/cows tore up getting back togather. I always wean acrossed the fence and if the sign is right, the cows will go out to the pasture and hardly look back at their calves. RW

I just read the almanac and the days are the same for castration or weaning anything stressful on a farm animal

ive weaned by the almanac and weaned not by the almanac...saw a big difference here...

Oh yeah, it makes a big difference.  We just weaned a couple of fall calves at the last phase, and they didn't hardly bellow at all.  The cows did not try and tear anything down, and the calves stayed on feed.

we have never done it and have rarely had any problems. maybe it's just our cows but nothing really bawls much and the calves don't really try and get back with the cows. could be attributed to the fact that we creep feed the calves and they are kinda used to it all ready.
