Calling all Simmental Folks

I am thinking of having a little fun this summer with breeding.  I have a good sized Shorthorn cow that has plenty of bone-- don't need anymore of that.  She is clubby type breeding in her background.  I think it would be fun the try a simmi on her and see what I get.  Would like a bit more gut.  Color doesn't matter, I would like the keep the BW reasonable-- she is a cow, so she should be able to handle more weight, but I don't want to stress her out.  She has a puppy dog disposition and I would like to find a puppy dog disposition simmi bull also. 

So Simmi folks-- help me out with some good references for sires that meet those areas.

Houston X01 gets my vote. He has a shot of who made who and 734 in his pedigree and his calves are looking good. Look at lot 1 on Elmore sale on bw today

I need to get some pictures downloaded, but I vote Chopper.  He never really caught my eye much, but the calves he has been throwing for friends of mine keep impressing the heck out of me.  Very moderate, wide tops, huge butts, and pretty good guts.  Very gentle.

Are you looking for Purebred?

Upgrade is doing a fantastic job, but make sure your cows have good structure. He can throw those rear wheels a little straight. But he will add rib and lots of growth.
Grandmaster will give rib and style, but lacks a little in the growth once they hit yearling stage. They later catch up, but there seems to be a little lag time in there... we use him and love him.
Uno Mas is starting to make waves. We have bred several to him, but no calves till fall. I like what I see so far though.
Make it Rain is another bull that is good in the right places. His EPD's are not the best, but he really cleaned up the shoulder and structure on a Macho half blood cow of ours, and that calf went on to win champion at Missouri State fair (percentage bull pictured in my avatar).
If you are wanting something you can show, in the Simm division, then you will have to use a purebred bull. But I have seen some fantastic shorty-simmi females!

Uno Mas' maternal sib, WLE/LWSC Revolution looks very good. I like the extention that he shows in comparison to Uno Mas although I don't know if he'll carry the rib shape that Uno Mas carries.

From what you described I would highly recommend Royal Affair.  I think he would deliver what you are looking for.  Guts, muscle and structure.  I really like his calves.

Uno Mas from Select Sires is who I would recommend. We have a couple bull calf twins out of a purebred Shorthorn cow that are flat good.

If you are wanting to have fun and burn a little cash, Optimus Prime is where I would spend my money.  His calves are huge middled, come small and grow really well.  We have had three of his out of a WhoDaMan x Shorthorn and they are all flat good.  One we are retaining as a heard bull, he was over 1200 as a yearling and only had creep as a calf and grass hay or pasture the rest.  They are good as steers and as breeding cattle.

I would like to thank each of the responders for their recommendations. 
I'm not worried if the bull is percentage Simmi or purebred- the calf will still be a shorthorn plus.

I have tried to look up every bull recommended and find that I am leaning towards Uno Mas-- but the choice is still open until she goes to the chute in June.  I will probably change my mind several times before I settle on a bull. 

Any more ideas are appreciated.

I was also looking at Long's Shear Pleasure-- sire of One eyed Jack.  My kids were in the same 4-H Club as Long's several years ago and we always loved to go look at their cattle during our club's home visit tour right before the fair.  Their place is pretty close to us in the Creston area.  \

I'll second Houston, he will help help moderate, add muscle and middle. The only down side to using him would be you couldn't dual register him.

One Eyed Jack will have lighter BW but tons of style and thickness. As a purebred, he would also give you the option to dual register, if you decide you would like to.

Have several Long's Shear Pleasure calves on the ground here - most out of older SimAngus cows, but a couple out of SHxAN cows.  Almost all were heifers, and most of them will be staying; we're commercial and don't breed for the showring, so I don't know how he'd fit for you, but he's working well for me in our herd.  Will be breeding some of them this spring... to WS All In.
Still have some LSP in the tank, but the farm manager switched over to PRS Blazin Hot for last fall's breeding group...not sure I remember why...

Virually all the bulls such as UnO Mas or shear pleasure progeny are calving ease bulls.  Whe you say you live around Creston do you mean Creston, BC?
I can think of many bulls that would work great here depending on what you want.  I would want more performance than Uno mas can give.
