Calving talent

3 cows... 3 bull calves  ??? I'm perplexed! Gotta be a record and it has to take talent to do something like that!

This spring we had 7 cows all of which are part of our show calf operation and 7 bull calves.

In our fall calvers we had all heifers last year, and are on our way this year to do it again.

Few years ago no sexed semen or anything like that we had 38 bulls in a row on a group of holstein heifers. That year sucked!

No talent just crappy luck. My fiance's aunt has 6-7 cows all from the same cow family and in the last 8+ years they have never got a bull calf. I want to do a little research on them cows and see what the heck is going on. Mostly A.I. calves too......

A couple years ago me and the wife's OBGYN had this conversation, (about the male being responsible for what sex the kid is).  I went on to tell her about my experiences with cattle and how I have had certain cows that have been bred to 7 or 8 different bulls over their life and have only had one heifer and some cows that seem to always have heifers (so there for the female had to have some influence over it).  I felt I explained things fairly well : and all I got was a hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm and kind of a crazy why are you referring to your cattle look. Needless to say I never brought up the issue again to the doc or the wife.    I understand the statement above and it makes sense but I am still convinced that the female play's some role in the sex.  ;D

I think the timing of ovulation in relation to actual breeding or A-I  and the speed and stamina of the semen have to do with it alot. Someone who knows for sure should explain it for us. I am just guessing but think  that female sperm and male sperm are alot different as far as speed and life span are concerned. A cow that releases her egg early is more likely to have a bull than a cow who releases here egg later ?????

Well they say that people can do things to alter their ph and whatnot to increase the likelihood of boy or girl. I don't know that much about that but a uterus is a uterus it would prolly work the same. Look it up

I can't remember off the top of my head the deep details, but there are some factors in which females may play a small role in determining which sex has a higher probability of fertilizing the egg.

38 calves so far this fall and only 8 have been bulls.  Good thing we are not a show steer operation or we would be hurting.
