Tough week of sales at the Classic. While there were a number of good sales, the overall numbers were not good. I saw a number of really good bulls and heifers no-sale or take sub par prices.
For example, the following heifers took a beating:
Champion and Res Champ Horned Herefords sold for $1,400 and $1,500 respectively.
Champion Shorthorn Plus - $1,250
Res Champ Shorthorn - $1,700
Res Champ Balancer/Gelbveih - $1,800
Yet, some sales were very good:
Champion Simmental heifer - $18,000 for 1/2 interest
Res Champ Simmy heifer - $13,000 for 1/2 interest
Res Champ Simmy bull - $10,500
Champion Charolais heifer - $15,000
Champion Angus heifer and Supreme NCC Heifer - $10,000
I think the combination of the snow storm changing the schedule, many home cleaning out snow and/or calving, and those herd owners keeping herd numbers down due to drought caused this tough market.
