Normally as long as you can get that 1st calf out safe and you haven't totally ruined her udder with fat pockets you will be fine.  Good luck with her!

She had another great weekend....She finished as 5th overall Market Animal at the Souix Center Junior Show on Saturday and below is a pic of her as she finished 4th overall Market Animal at the Shelby County Junior Show in Harlan.  She weighs 1149 in the pic.

I love her thats a super cow type regardless of being shown as a "market animal" and having heatwave in the pedigree. Slowly trim her down on condition and you will be fine also if possible wait til fall and breed her in fairly good condition so she will conceive then work on trimming her up. Some of the best cows have market heifers because the were to stout to show breeding such as yours

Hey DCC show cattle....thanks so much for the advice.  That is what we are hoping to do.  We haven't pushed her on feed to "fatten" her at all.  She is just so naturally wide.  It sure has been fun to show her.

For sure its just the truth its fun to work with good easy fleshing cattle! Its not so much the condition of when she breeds but the condition of when she calves! Make sure the first one comes out good and you have a donor prospect for making steers in your hands

"Lil" had another successful outing.  She won grand champion market heifer and overall grand champion market animal at the Floyd County Fair in Charles City, Iowa.  In the pic she is weighing 1230lbs.

We were there yesterday watching the beef show. The minute I saw her, I told my husband she will be very tough to beat. I was right. She is GOOD!! Great job iowabeef!!
She would look very nice in my pasture!!!

So in roughly 20 days she gained nearly 100lbs? Or was it a bit longer? What is she being feed?

The show where she was around 1149 was the second show of a 2 day trip for us.  We left on friday night from home with her around 1185, travelled across the state about 3  1/2 hours and showed her on Saturday (I can't remember what she weighed that first day), then we drove about 3 hours south to show her on Sunday.  We felt the scales were weighing a little light at that show.  Everytime we go out it seems the scales are a little wonky.  Then at county we got her a good bucket of water before weigh in ....I think the scales were a little heavy at county.  I think she was more around 1230.  We feed her a ration our brother mixes at our local elevator...no special show feeds.

Update....
2 more top fives this weekend for our girl.....5th overall at the Southeast Iowa Empire Classic in Columbus Junction and Reserve Overall at the Dubuque Co open show.  She has placed in the top 5 at the last seven shows she has been to.  Been a great summer with this once in a lifetime calf.
