My friend built one of those about 10 years ago.  Sure was handy instead of opening the gate and could double as a ramp if you had the cojones.

Have they ever had problems with the occasional cow walking over it? I think I have a few cows that would definitely go over.  I had one old girl that would walk over a Texas gate. I watched her one day and she would actually carefully place her front feet on the third or fourth pile, and then jump over. She would not stop, so she became hamburger. She was near the end of her time here anyways, but I was more concerned that she would teach some others to do the same. We have 15 texas gates in our pastures so we really don't want them to start figuring them out.

we have built a whole bunch of those. Our first one is kind of like that one only made out of steel, but goes over the whole 4 barb wire fence. For the other 10 we built we took the old roller chains from case balers and then just welded like a half moon frame then attached the roller chain. this was much easier. only problem we had was our first one we had too much of a half circle so you have to gun it a little to make it over.
