I was impressed with the video of Chopper.  Looked plenty thick and real soggy to make awsome females.

Something that concerned me about the chopper bull is this. I liked the bull. But where are all the other good ones out of steel force.  He had to be used in great cows and great herds. They dug chopper out of a small non reputable herd in Nebraska. Not taking any thing away from the breeder.  Congratulations to him. I may use the bull. But its almost like us this the best they could do out of all the hype on steel force. Maybe most people just storing the semen. Thinking it will be valuable. I don't know

I think you need to remember that there was very little hype on Steel Force until after Griswold bought him prior to this he was just one of hundreds of Dream On sons.  Unless I am mistaken it was long after spring breeding season that Griswold aquired the bull in fact according to the ASA web site it wasn't until November 07.  Considering this how many great cows got bred to him for spring 08 calves and it is possible the people involved with the  Exposure sale had very few if any of their own born.

Having said that I am not totally convinced that Steel Force is the answer but him and Chopper both have a place.

When Griswold bought Steel Force you could count on one hand the number of people that Bill Fulton had sold semen to as well as Doug Parke.  One of Griswald's big questions was how much semen was out on the bull.(I think that added to his appeal) The first year very few females were bred to him outside Fulton's herd.

I will agree I don't think Steel Force is a "cow changer"(most bulls aren't) but the family dairy cow doesn't get 250.00 dollar semen either.  '09 crop will be the test on Steel Force.

If any of you folks know John Griswold, how many bulls have you seen him promote that he didn't use himself? I know for a fact that alot of the bulls ,clubbies and some purebred's are promoted by people that don't use the bulls they are promoting. How strange is that? JOHN GRISWOLD told me he didn't have time or money to spend on something that wouldn't work on his cows. John doesn't use Heat Wave etc. but he will buy one to show for a kid. If he didn't think Steel Force would work he wouldn't have bought in to him. He does his homework pretty thourough.Besides all of that,I know of at least 8 "BIG TIME" club calf producers that are on the waiting list for semen.... John Okla

WHen you look at some of our masculine muscle bound females, I think Chopper would put some much needed refinement in them. I am a big fan of simmi's and half bloods. I thought he was correct and attractive profiling. I would use him on the same cows I would use Meyer to produce heifers. Not every bull is built for show steers.

I agree big time.  Take some of those harder made females *coughHeatWavecough* and put this guy on them and you might actually get some viable breeding females that would show too.  He has his place for sure, but it might take a couple years for folks to figure that out.
