Cleaning caked on poo??

Daughter and son have 4 show cattle, although we are not big into showing by traveling around to major shows the kids would like to show in a few sanctioned shows, are problem is that we had a rough winter and not enough bedding, sooo their sides are caked with poop and bedding, other then scubbing and scrubbing and pulling hair out that way,  is there a better way to get this mess under control? A special solvant of some kind???

I would suggest squirting large amounts of canola/vegitable oil on the areas.  This will loosen up the "tag".  Do this for a few days, and then try to pull them off with a scotch comb.  If you are pulling the hair out, then keep saturating it with oil.  Eventually the oil with loosen the tag from the hairs so that the tag just slides off the hair.  This is similar to the method you would try if your 3 year old got gum stuck in her hair...peanut butter.  You may have to get your fingers in the tag to pull it back and squirt the oil right along the skin.  Good Luck, and make sure they get a good bath once the tag is all out, to wash all that oil away, and get ALL the poo out of their hair.

WD40 helps, soak it good and wait several hours or until the next day.

just get those areas nice and soaked and let them sit for 5 minutes or so, then go to town with the curry comb, it'll come off really easy

Lots of baby oil....soak....comb.....baby oil....soak....repeat until clean.
The baby oil is actually good for the skin and you can leave it in the hair for undetermined amount of time and it will "shield" the clean hair from picking up any other dirt.
