clippers??

I need to buy a new pair of clippers and i'm just wondering what kind you fellow planeteers think I should get. The previous pair i had was the Andis AGP Super 2-Speed Clipper and they just died this afternoon the kinds i am looking at now are the Andis Excel 5 Speed Clipper and the Andis AGCL Lightspeed Clipper. Just looking for pros and cons for each, what you like about them, etc. I'm also open to any suggestions. Thanks in advance!

If you were happy with the 2 speeds,and the only problem you had is they just died,i would go ahead and order another set.You know what they will do and you already know how to use them.In my opinion-more speeds, more problems

i havre heard alot of good things about the 5 speeds. i have the 2 speeds and they are great too. 5 speeds look more comfortable to hold JMHO

We have lightspeeds and love them but my next pair will be whal switchblades they are great! Light and fit hand great

I love my 5 speeds, the only thing with them is that they heat up really fast, because of the blade speed

Is it the switch that broke?  I've replaced the switch on my AGC (round body) 2-speeds twice, easy fix, part is about $11, I keep a spare handy.  Not sure on the AGP's. Might as well open 'em up and see if you can diagnose the problem.

Professor Plum, no its was not the switch that broke. last weekend i noticed they started getting really hot, like WAY warmer than clippers normally get, and they also started running much slower. When i was clipping my steer on Sunday, i noticed a strange smell and all of a sudden they just started smoking.
Also, thanks to everyone for their opinions, i really appreciate them and i've decided to order the light speed clippers.

i was talking to the guy that was at our jr nationals that does the blade sharpening and clipper repairs. he said keeping the blades cool is really important, cus once the blades get warm, and the clippers even somewhat gets warm, it starts to deteriate and melt the core of the clipper. which will cause the clipper to die at some point. even if you pick up better clipping cooling practices it will die at some point because it started. i dont remember exactly what the problem was, but it was something because of heat and it will kill the clippers. its not a matter of if its a matter of when.

i like my 2 speeds. i got the agc brown ones. i got 2 of em, i won one set. i love them. ive also used a 5 speed and those are pretty sweet too. and super light. the cord is heavier than the clipper itself.

i think they had lose wiring or something because it was up at the cord where it heated up. i think they may have also gotten a bit of hair in the casing too which may have contributed to the problem.

Aftering going to the Andis 5 speeds after using both the Whal KM2 and Andis 2 speed I will never buy a different small clipper again. Fast, cool, quiet and they do not bog down.
I also love my new Premier 4000s clippers. I use both big and small clippers. prefer the big ones for bellys, clipping glued legs and running toplines. use the small clippers neck and shoulder, top. grew up using both and bought what i consider the best of both.

bought the 5 speed andis and have two sets of two speeds for backups. Loved the 5 speeds. fast, light, comfy, a carving mans dream. bought them in lanuary, used them 20 times give or take, and the damn things just died at a show. they had heated up too much (even used the cool lube stuff as oil instead of other oil) and it melted the chord and switch inside. im going to get them replaced and go back to them. my 2 speeds are my old reliables  O0
