The thing I like about water over something like a broom or whatever is that they cannot kick it back at you.   I've had a broom knocked out of my hands & it hurt.

I know of a horse trainer that actually uses a pressure washer to desensitize with.   I'm not so sure that much is necessary but whatever works in a situation.

IMHO... The show stick/broom is better to break them when starting from scratch.  The water spray is better to break a kicker that's already been worked with.

A pressure washer is great, if you use the right nozzle & the right amount of pressure.  Some pressure washer/nozzle combos are going to be too harsh for an animal.  I'm sure that most people know that, but some may not.

We have a super heavy steel chute in the show barn that I use daily, and we've put kickers in there and just sit back about 6 feet and use the blower to get them going. One or two shots to the back bar on the chute and they usually quit.

I fount out that kicking them back dosn't help any, but it does make me feel better some times.

yup, and each kick makes it exponentially worse.  the thing about kickers is that when they "quit" and you get to pulling their leg hair, you are in a false sense of security and wham!  then one gets all pissed, it's usually right before a show, it riles them up, they won't set up, the judge says he couldn't see them, then comes the complaints about who's on the halter and an endless string of reasons for failure.
