Creep Feed Recipe that you use

What is your creep feed recipe that you use? I am looking for a more affordable ration. Does anyone just feed preconditioning and receiving chow from purina as a creep? Right now I use a custom mix which has Purina grand-4-tfyer in it.

Think ahead and buy oats out of the field at harvest,  add a little calf manna or such and keep the feeder full. The oats will keep for a year or more and calves can digest the whole oats

we feed whole oats out of the field (we grow them) and top dress with a little milk replacer and soybean meal.  The milk replacer tastes good and helps get them on the feed and we back off on it once all calves are eating well

I fed my Show Ration to baby calves,weaning calves, cows, bulls and sometimes the dog.

Our creep recipe is very similar to AAOK's and it works great!
1000 Rolled Corn
400 Cottonseed Hulls
325 Oats
175 48% Soybean Meal
100 Liquid Molasses
35 CTC Krums
100 Sure Champ

They also have access to free choice Vita Ferm Cattleman's Blend mineral and a salt block

Ours is a 15% bulk blended feed, same thing we feed to everything that gets feed. We hand feed yearlings and whatever else we have around the barn...and it all comes out of the same bin. The feed has a corn gluton pellet, cottonseed hulls & bean meal with added fat & additive package, etc. Calves like it, and they do well on it.

Several years ago, I fed a group of calves a high protein, high energy ground corn mix with a high salt content to limit feed intake. The calves did REALLY well on that feed! Corn may not be the most economical ingredient right now, but you might consider a salt-limiting ration like that if it's feasible. My experience here is that Purina isn't the most economical feed around...not sure how it compares in your area or what other options you might have.

Most places DDGs are more expensive than corn, so check that out before you start using by-products in your creep ration.
