Ours is a 15% bulk blended feed, same thing we feed to everything that gets feed. We hand feed yearlings and whatever else we have around the barn...and it all comes out of the same bin. The feed has a corn gluton pellet, cottonseed hulls & bean meal with added fat & additive package, etc. Calves like it, and they do well on it.
Several years ago, I fed a group of calves a high protein, high energy ground corn mix with a high salt content to limit feed intake. The calves did REALLY well on that feed! Corn may not be the most economical ingredient right now, but you might consider a salt-limiting ration like that if it's feasible. My experience here is that Purina isn't the most economical feed around...not sure how it compares in your area or what other options you might have.
