Dark Horse?

I am looking at bulls to breed to some pure bred angus cattle. I am hoping for show cattle. I have been looking at Style and Dark Horse. Do you have any suggestions or comments about these bulls?

The darkhorse calves I've seen haven't impressed me all that much.  The cows that they were out of didn't impress me all that much either, so that could be a contributing factor.  I guess I just don't think that darkhorse is going to put enough volume in them.

I used Style on a couple of flushes and a handful of cows.  It was a risk on the flushes but the rest of his flushmates have been so consistent that I thought it was worth a shot.  I saw him in Denver and absolutely loved him!

i like dark horse as a bull he is very eye applying. when i go to shows i don't see dark horse calves well thanks for your comment!

Haven't heard great things about Dark Horse calves.. Style is rather impressive from the side, but kind of disappointed me when viewed from behind. In all honesty-- although he's dirty, I like styles full brother Troubadour a lot more than I do style. JMHO. One bull that you didn't ask about that I really like myself is Smooth Move-- Cattlevisions carries him.  Hes posses a CLEAN pedigree (if that's a concern), expresses tremendous power and shape throughout, and is extended from nose to tail.  I see big things comin' from him; terminal and maternal side alike.

I agree with the Smooth Move recommendation, he should have some calving ease as well.  SAV Providence has some nice calves out right now and I would not hesitate to consider PVF Windfall.

I didn't see him in the wash racks @ Jr Nat'ls, Garrett was in a different barn than myself, but I did see him in the racks in January, and in Reno in April.  IMO- He's just so attractive and flat good from the side, I guess I kind of expected just a little more power from behind-- which is why I like Troubadour, he carries just a notch more thickness into the his quarter, especially his lower 1/3. Again-- JMHO.

I see what you are saying.  With those two bulls there is some give and take.  While Troubador had more power I thought that he also was carrying a little more shoulder.  Plus...he was a carrier.  That alone makes him unusable for me.  Style had the eye appeal but not the muscle that his bother had.  I think Style is adequately to above average muscled for an angus and with that beautiful hair he was stout enough for me. ;D 

The mating I'm looking forward to having is a Style X Freedom.  The Freedom mom was an excelent show heifer for me and was yak haired.  With Style I hope to make her a little prettier fronted and  O0!

Shouldn't have to worry about that front outta him, thats for sure! I see zipper & extended in your future... lol... and HAIRY. (I think I know who I'm calling next summer if my calves are short on hair  (thumbsup) (lol) )

I have a couple of Dark Horse bull calves.  They are both nice, and  both different.  They are not quite what I expected after his promo pics and vid but very similar to our expectations after a friend went and saw him at stud.  They are very sound and functional but he may not be a cow changer or give you that wow factor you are looking for.

  On Style, we have had such great success with El Capitan that I had to try him.  I flushed a Grid Topper daughter to him that is the dam of our Angus heifer we are showing this year.  After seeing him in Denver at the NJAS I was really impressed.  He may not blow you away with thickness of hip but I think it is some what deceiving because he is so deep bodied and and big ribbed.  Angus sires do not need to be Heat wave hipped (thank God), thats what we have terminal breeds for.  He does have great hair and moved around the ring as smooth as any bull I have seen in a while.  Garret and his crew had him looking great and I don't think there was any thing else that could even come close to him at Jun. Nationals.  I sure plan to use him more this next season.

PTA or any one else, feel free to stop up and see the Dark Horse calves some time along with the others.
