TJ I think it might be right at, or a little more than an hour.. Last summer I judged Metroplolis, and I think it took me close to an hour to get there.. Have a real good freind that lives there.. Larry Durham, retired ag teacher.. You know him.

Wrong bridge... I'm near Old & New Shawneetown, IL... Harrisburg & Eldorado are 30-40 minutes from me & I'm guessing that you are about 30-40 minutes from them.  It's a little over an hour to Mt Vernon & it's sounding like you are real close to Mt Vernon.

Who is your buddy in Harrisburg?  I know a few people in Harrisburg.  My wife played softball for SE IL.  I even have people in Saline county that have used a couple of Lowline bulls.

I might try to drop in & look when I'm heading that direction sometime... wouldn't mind seeing what you've got.  BTW, I can't wait to see those MONSTER Sheep!  (lol)  (clapping)    j/K

Shawn, there have been piles of cattle lined up that tight. Grandfather to Granddaughter is practically common in linebreeding. You could get a very good one. I would like to see Gizmo on her. JMO. Brent

Dylan Wise, currently a Junior or senior in HS.. Also know the Bond family from the outskirts of Harrisburg..

I don't know how big your cattle are, going to guess around 50" at hips?? Correct me if I am wrong...

I have a ram who is in the 43" range at the shoulders.. We breed for big sheep, bigger the better... Picture of him, and I here.  http://www.freewebs.com/showsheep/supersires.htm  Second one down, he was a young yearling in that pic.. around 40 at shoulders.. I am 6.1" holding him.

It would be worth your time for a visit... Especially if you hit it right when mom has dinner ready.

Is Dylan related to Gene Wise?  I'm guessing so, which is kinda why I asked.  Gene used to run the club calf sale at Harrisburg.  We consigned calves to that sale for a few years.  Had a Tarentaise display too & picked up several customers.  I know some Bonds, but not that well.

How much do the sheep weigh?  A 43 inch ram sounds like a BIG ram.

43 inch ram is big,  but not huge.. Biggest sheep ever heard of was 46 I think.

We have never fed him super hard, but in this picture, he was 300+ right at 2 years old.  Coulda got a lot bigger... It was taken in probably Feb after being taken out about 40 of the ewes in Dec and he weighed 320 then.  Takes more time than that to build him back up..

Right now he is a coming 3 year old, and basically the same condition wise, maybe a little bit thinner, as he was with 50+ ewes this fall and winter on nothing but grass and pond water.  I'm going home this weekend and I will probalby take an updated pic of him for my website.. I can show you..then

I have heard of that sale, never been.. Don't know about the relationship though.

This is probably a 46-47 inch heifer.  12 month old 1/2 blood out of a Tarentaise.  That sheep looks a decent amount shorter & keep in mind the heifer is downhill from everybody in the pic... do they measure sheep at the top of the shoulders?

Yes, we measure at top of shoulders, cattle people measure at hips..  I can tell you that, that buck can almost set his head on my shoulders.

This pic is of a ewe lamb who measured right at 39 at 13 months of age..  Same kinda deal she stood 3rd at NAILE 2 yrs ago, is the mother of champion hamp buck this year... Always was a freak.

Just come on over, and see for yourself

I could tell that it was waste high or a little better at the shoulders.  Wasn't so much doubting the 43 inches as I was pointing out that they just don't look similar.  ;)

Can't say when, but I'll probably slip over that direction sometime.

I wasn't sayint they were similar I was just saying that our sheep are almost as tall as your cows..>HEHE..  but on a serious note, the cattle still have us smoked in terms of weight... Your prob weigh 8-900.. ours for a heavy one 400...  Just so much more bone and mass, and inerds... and meat tooo.....  Anyways, doors always open to visitors...  Just let me know ahead of time so i can try to be there... Going to school 5/5 hours away sometimes put a damper on things like that.. Don't get to go home every weekend.
