Dr. Who raised a Champion Red Angus steer at Houston a few years ago. The calf won in the exotics all year and then somehow got through the sift as a red angus. He also sired the Grand Steer in San Antonio in 07.
We used Dr. Who on a 7 crossbred cows last year. We got 4 calves (one died after birth - nothing appeared to be wrong, just one of those things). Of the three live calves, one doesn't amount to muchI was initially underwhelmed by the calves this fall. However, the other two (one steer and one heifer) are very nice. The steer is now in the barn is probably the biggest boned, heaviest muscled, best haired black calves I've raised. A little big in the shoulders and may break behind them a little, but that probably comes from the cow as that issue pops up in our calves a little.
I didn't use him last fall and now regret it, especially seeing this picture. I will use him again on more cattle next year. Bulls that look like this after they are old are who we ought to be using more of. His steers and heifers both work - which is what I really want.
