Looking to ship semen from our farm. Anywhere to rent or have shipper sent to our farm? No ET center or semen company real close.

Buy one. You will be money ahead.  After you rent one 4 or 5 times you will have paid for it and you will be surprised how often you use it.  Buying embryos or semen at an auction, trading semen or embryos, and you never have to haul around the big tank.

Stupid question, how do you charge it or refill it?

How we charge our tank is fill it today with liquid Nitrogen and let it sit overnight.  The next day top it off with Nitrogen again and let it sit overnight.  The next day dump any Nitrogen that was not absorbed into your regular tank or dump it out.  You are not to ship a tank with liquid Nitrogen remaining.  Once you have done this process the tank should be charged for 14 days.  Those instructions were in the literature which came with the tank.

We have a Millenium SC4/2V and like someone else said, you will be surprised how much you use it once you have it.  We do quite a bit of embryo stuff so seems were constantly shipping it somewhere.  Read the dimensions and you will find this model has a larger cannister and holds quite a bit more.

We do not loan the tank out.  Anytime we send the tank out we include a prepaid return label with a note for the party receiving to call UPS and have it picked up and returned.

Thanks for the info, should really invest in one but haven't figured out the logistics. So do you just keep a extra tank full of nitrogen to use as a nurse tank so to speak? I always use nichols Cyro to ship out of farm, but as someone said earlier I could have a shipper paid for by now.

You certainly could keep an old tank around to use as a nurse tank.  We have a extra tank but what we typically do is take the Shipper on a Friday and get it filled for the first time.  We then go back on Saturday and pick up the Shipper and they top it off.  We let it sit until Monday and dump any surplus Nitrogen into our normal working tank.

The reason we do this is we have a full 14 days of use.  If we have things lined up we can normally get two shipments on the one charge.

We are fourtunate that there is a local welding supply company that has Nitrogen available.  Unfortunately it costs as much to fill the Shipper as it does a normal tank.

My local Huber supply in Mason City, IA will fill mine for $6, big tank is more like $25.

Bull stud will do it if your are picking up from there.  Semen route guy/gal will fill it for you if they are going by...

I like mine too.  Nice to not have the big tank, you do need to plan ahead a little...

Thanks for all the info. Roughly what does it cost to ship it out and for return label. I know it will vary based on location just looking for general cost

We normally pay $60 to $70 to send the shipper out and have it returned.  That can depend upon if you are shipping to a business or not.  Since we are not close to a UPS office we take to a local hardware store who serves as an agent which means we pay more.

We had some embryos shipped from preferred genetics, we bought them from the online sale J &C Simmentals had. I was charged $170 to ship them to me, that is the most I ever paid! They do not accept credit cards, so I had to wait for them to receive my check before I could have the embryos shipped to me.
We do a lot of shipping of embryos, in most cases the charge is about $70. Our dry shipper went bad, so I need to send in the tank to get it repaired.... Just have not done it yet. So when I buy now, I am at the mercy of who ever owns the tank.... And usually put on a waiting list to get my new purchase to me.
