What does everyone think of using grandmaster on pb nichols legacy grandaughters to make replacement feamales ?

I've got a Legacy daughter bred to Grandmaster - so at least as far as I'm concerned it's a great idea!

  What do PPL think about going old school and using some Nichol's Legacy B4 we can't get him any longer. He's a bull that when you study pedigrees comes up quite often. You would think that there should be something better by now but was just wondering if anyone has thought about using him besides myself.

Legacy daughters make great cows as a rule.  The main reason you see him so much in pedigrees is that he is the sire of Dream On and Shear Force.  Dream On being the most popular ever, and Shear Force being a very solid heifer bull. 

I still have a few straws in the tank that I am saving for a rainy day.

So what exactly does Dream On do that legacy doesn't ? Makes no sense that Dream on is a hundred a straw and legacy is twenty ? And legacy has a better mm epd !

  PPL that I have talked to about using Legacy say that I won't like them until they are fully grown out. That they are later maturing cattle.

Off-topic from the thread subject, but in answer to the last question...I would have to say that the Dream Ons are much softer made as a rule, when compared to the Legacys from years ago.  Anyone agree?

I'll agree that Legacy's do make tremendous females... but as stated earlier Dream On excels in that he does make them softer with more depth and rib shape as well as maybe a little bit more bone???  Plus Legacy tends to pop the tailheads up...... at least that's just some of our observations.....

As far as Grandmaster goes.... we calved a 1/2 dozen or so heifers to him this past year with no problems.... and have some more due to him for this next Spring.  The calves sure are put together good but came in a little smaller being off of first calf heifers which is to be expected....

I have three Lagacy cows in production.  Love them.  Mine are all 1/2 bloods.  Legacy x PB Angus "Ohlde bred"cows.
He may not be as deep bodied as Dream On, but good muscle, tons of grow in the calves, and great maternals.  One of my three has the 'best udder" in my herd.
I also still have some semen left in the tank.
I think he works great on smaller framed, deep bodied Angus cows.
