Probably some pretty good cows inthe herd, just not real "popular" pedigrees. The lot 1 bull looks like he has some meat in him, but looks like a little straight on his back wheels like Contender was.

There are about three of those cows that could click with most any of the popular sires today.  I requested a catalog.

Looks like a decent herd of cattle but its far from a closed herd!
I researched alot of their cattle and a big majority of the pedigrees are full of other people's prefixes!

My guess is that is will be the sale of the decade. You can pick and pick but it is still  is out cross and has a focus of the right type of beef shorthorn.  My hat is off to Dr Ray .

I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I don't see how this will be the "sale of the decade". It will probably a good sale in the aspect that you will probably be able to get some good cows bought worth the money.

don't think records will be broken, but think good cattle will sell reasonable

SJ, Did you get the letter ? " Presently there is only one purchased female in the herd, all other cattle in some way trace back to the original purebred heifer purchased in 1968. " Maybe not " technically " a closed herd but not many breeders of any size can make that statement including myself. Those cattle can be bred to anything pretty much.

I think KF got confused on words. I just simply didn't agree with this being the "sale of the decade". To me a "sale of the decade" is a Hoyt Dispersal, Mill Brook Dispersal, Sutherland Farms dispersal or one of Green Ridges' dispersals every 7 years. I'm sure he has a following up in the northeast, & that he has some good cows in the herd but I just don't think this sale is anywhere close to one of those.

Lets not leave out Dean Farms Dispersal . Point is that I want this thread to keep going. No fancy prefix in this offering - good breeders find good breeders. Some wait for the purchase to be made by the right "name" and decide it's "great". Will wait for a embryo or just go and find the proven outcross female?

Personally, I think these are good cattle. However they lack enough hair to please the Scotch Comb Mafia that has sodomized the Shorthorn breed.

Hope I don't offend anyone, that's just the way I feel.

the sale went well didn't stay for the heifers or steers but the cows sold well and all went for over 1800. not sure about all the specific lot #'s

What does that prove??? He may have been buying recips for all you know(unless he told you something different).

why do people spell udder utter?  in that catalog it's spelled that way.  that's the second time i've seen it spelled that way in a week from a prominent herd.

I think a long time shorthorn breeder deserves alittle more then a comment like that? RECIPS
