I currently have a cow that is being flushed and I got some #1's and some #2's. What is the actual difference between the two. Also is there any difference between the conception rates of a #1 compared to a #2.
Any input is appreciated.

Thanks

Spencer

Spencer,

#1 is top quality, while #2 is not quite as good...some embryologists will even freeze #3's.

Usually 1's and 2's are marketable, while you better plan on using any 3's yourself.

We really see no difference in stick rate between 1's and 2's.

Some people are sure that #2's have a highly likelihood of being heifers.

I save the number ones to sell and use the number twos myself.  Only put the number threes in fresh--just not good enought to use frozen.

What do you mean by not good enough?

The ET firm I use, will only freeze grade 1 embryos, so I either have to implant the grade 2 and 3 embryos or toss them.  Many people believe that you will get about 60-65% heifers from grade 2 embryos, and there seems to be some research to suggest this as well. I see no difference in the pregnancy rates of 1 and 2s and I have had pretty good luck with implanting grade 3s fresh as well.

My ET firm freezes both #1 and #2 embryos for me.
I am only selling #1s and the #2s I am going to implant in my own recips.
Probably get a high % of heifers according to the research and comments about #2s
