Unfortunately it probably would have influence on the judges decision and that is why my family stays away from the steers.  We show locally but not at the state level, and the biggest reason for that is politics.  And there is no denying that who sold it, who owns it, or who is on the show stick makes a difference.  I don't like politics and I sure don't have the cash flow to buy a seat at the top.

For the steer deal I know there is cheating going on, but most the time the ones winning aren't cheating. It is the ones trying to catch the ones winning that are cheating. The winners are the ones usually accused of cheating by the ones who are actually cheating. (not all the time but more times than not)

The statement above is my stance, Heifers and Steers!  When we were showing, we won, fair and square.  Those always trying to have us kicked out were the ones cheating, but wouldn't put in the work to win!

We've done better at State and National levels than we ever did at county shows, for pretty much the same reason.

What about Families that go out and spend 50-60 thousand dollars on a steer so their kid can win Ft. Worth or Houston.  Is that ethical? What are they teaching their children?

Simple- The Golden Rule: The man w/ the most gold rules. That's life. Either accept your place in this world and go on w/ it...or... take the necessary steps to put yourself in the position you want to be in.

$50K - $60K, or even $100K doesn't always win!

We have good luck showing our heifers at the local and state levels, never been to a National Show personally, but my in-laws have been to Louisville a couple of times.  I personally just love the heifers and don't put the time or money into steers.  I love the breeding side of the cattle business,  nothing is better to me than raising a kick butt heifer especially when she turns into a great cow.

Is it possible to opt out of a thread so it stops showing up in the list of posts I'm following?...

Could knowing there is a 60,000 steer in the ring cause a judge to make an unethical decesion ?

Maybe not consciously but it has to weigh heavy on you if there's that kinda$ steer in the ring.  I mean, I know I would second guess my placings if I found out one of them demanded that price.  "A lot of people must of thought pretty highly of it to bring 60k."  If it's real money, I would think the steer would have to be awfully specially to bring that.

Been to a breed National once - never again.  "I love the breeding side of the cattle business,  nothing is better to me than raising a kick butt heifer especially when she turns into a great cow."  You said it right!
