Well, this past weekend I joined the "other dark side" and bought a black Angus heifer. I've personally been a Simmi and Hereford person most of my life, so needless to say I don't know the Angus lineup like I do the Simmi one. I originally bought her to make 50/50 offspring but she's got me wondering what's out there as far as purebreds go. I've done a little research on here but couldn't find anything recent. Anyone have any information on some of the Angus bulls out there? Who are the best bulls for muscle, best bulls for guts, performance, show ring etc etc? Who are y'all using? Who's your favorite? Any help/insight is appreciated.  ;D O0 ;)

I have used a few different ones. Currently have calves out of American Classic, Hobart, and Windfall. I havent had a calf with as much power as the American Classic heifer. She would probably be comparable to a simmi as far as power-wise goes. As far as production i really like Tour of Duty. Gives a lot of valuable traits in one animal. We also have an SAV Hot Iron calf out in the pasture that has a lot of grow to her. I am looking at using some Insight as was said above. I havent yet because i have used a lot of Bismarck for my heifers and with Insight being a Bismarck grandson I have shyed away. Also used some First n Goal for the first time this year so we will see how that goes. Also looking at Green Pokerface, Silverias Style and GQ, and maybe trying a couple of the other full sibs to first class to see how they compare to American Classic.

You could try Colburn Primo for a super showy one, just be careful if your heifer is not as sound. He can throw some freaks.

Thank you! I appreciate your reply! I've also been wondering about Silveria's Style! How is American Classic for body depth? I'll definitely look into the bulls you mentioned!  (thumbsup)

Thanks for your reply! I really like the look of Primo! Would you happen to have any calf pictures?  <rock>

There are no calves yet, they're basing their caution on his sisters. Which are pretty sound. We are using him quite a lot and will have a bunch of calves next spring.

Good deal! I'll be curious to see what his progeny do. I should have paid more attention to his birth date.  (lol)

Primo, the Guyer and Nawatzke heifers are out of a Style cow. Colburns had quite a few Style Heifers in their heifer sale last fall , they have a sister pair that are in their doner pen, one of them is the dam of the Primo and 2 heifers. There are some good ones out there. This is a picture of a Style/Remington lock n load heifer they sold last year, she looks the part.

As far as depth goes I would say she is got plenty, but she is out of a cow that was super deep sided. I have a thread just below this one with the calf if you want to see a picture of her. If your looking for belly the bull I would use would be Style. I havent used home but seems like every calf I have seen that has been out of him has been huge bellied.

I'm partners on an Insight heifer. She is a touch moderate but has enough rib for 2 heifers in my opinion. I really like that bull.

Another one I really like is Exar Blue Chip

VC, I really like the looks of that heifer. As you said, she looks the part. I did notice that Primo had some Style blood. I think I might just give him a try.

Thanks for the info, Hidden Creek. I'm a fan of big bellied cattle so I'm definitely interested in Style. I feel so far behind in the Angus world since I haven't ever really followed it!  (lol)

That's another one for Insight! And I took a look at Blue Chip, do you have any offspring pictures?
