First of all first impression are must so neat and clean. The second thing is having someone there to talk to about the cattle and answer any questions that a possible buyer might have. I personally hate standing around a stall waiting for the owner or a representative to show up so that I can ask questions.

I agree 100% with DCIL. As long as the animal is presented well and the stall area is neat and clean, and there's a visible FOR SALE sign or indication of such, I'll usually inquire about the animal if he/she is one I might be interested in.  I'm also looking to see what people like, because I might have to put some of the tips to use in the coming weeks.

Thanks keep them coming.  Everything at expo is for sale except jr. cattle.  Do you all like pictures of an animals "cow family" ect.  I just don't want to do over kill, but want to do enough

Maybe you could keep a binder with each of your sale cattle in it and for each one put like - copy of their papers and maybe even dam and sire paper work, pictures of the animals cow family, pictures of the animal as it has grown, accomplishments of dam, sire and animal, etc. I would be impressed

That is exactly what I was thinking.  My bull's dam has had quiet a show career, so has her full sister.  I also own the granddam so I thought it would be nice to share those pictures.

I'm thinking neat and professional.  I hate those displays that are so overdone.  A display bull's display is a little different than a sale bull in my opinion.   I also am getting hubby to rig me some lights so we can shine them on him.

If your nice to me lol I may even give you candy lol

easy to read pedigree's with registration number if registered.  sire name if steer and class entered.

clean straw bed or equivalent with someone there to remove animal waste at time of deposition.

easy to see contact information, particularly how to contact at show.

professional appearance of team, even if not showing.

no goofing around near exhibits.  it's a business attitude.

We have made a photo DVD of many of our past show cattle, farm and family scenes and and the cow herd.  We set up a small DVD player on the table with other info.  Its amazing how many people will stand and watch it.  Sure helps to break the ice and show them some siblings etc. that are for sale.  We also use this at the state consignment sales.  Caution if its cold tho.  The kids first personal DVD player didn't like to work when it was cold.

One thing that is important to me when I'm exhibiting at a show/sale - make sure you give yourself enough room. We were absolutely squashed in Denver this year, so if you stopped at our stall all you saw were 5 butts, not a good side profile. Try to give the animals enough room so you can see a side profile if they turn sideways. Keep the wood chips or whatever fresh, the stalls looking neat. We have a couple of halogen lights with the clamp base that we attach to our fan stands to put some extra light on the cattle.

Don't forget to mention the link on steer planet for the sale catalog (I've already found him), the lot number and as the sale comes up the stall location.  That will get people starting to stop by and once you have that crowd the others will stop by looking to see what it is all about.

Ask the owners of Gus how big a cheering section they had......

The princess in the stall wouldn't hurt any! <party>  Have fun and good luck.

with all the cattlewomen out there, i would think the prince wouldn't be such a bad idea either.

seen some pretty rough looking cattlemen out there.

I have seen quite a few displays with the binders filled with copys of their registration papers, Pictures of Sire, Dam, Grand Dam, Full Brothers and sisters. However dont just wire them to your divders, put it out on a taller coffe table. I wouldn't use a complate fan cage however, mainly because the fans dont make for a great view. I would just use your stall dividors, the head tie, and stall signs along with a fresh coat of paint. The clamp on lights would also be really nice.

I carry a small photo album that has pictures of the sire & dam. Keep stall clean. Be ready to take him out & walk in case someone wants to see him move. Also have business cards available. I was once called 3 years after having 2 bulls in sale by a guy looking for a new bull.
Having Dee w/ tears in her eyes also doesn't hurt!  ;)
