$50 can get you atleast a $1500 return on a decent calf. It really isn't that much

I agree, is an extra $25 really worth getting all worked up about?
If you're breeding him for what he is that little shouldn't matter, if you're breeding him because you think he has a cute name you can get some dairy semen for $5 dollars and get a live calf just as easy.

I'll agree that in some cases, that 50 dollars isn't a big deal. But I can also think of several instances where 50$ has killed the deal. One such instance happened with the Maine bull Premium Blend. He started at 50 and no one used him. He is now down to 25, where he should have started, and few use him. His time came and went. I think that 50 dollars is only for very proven bulls that are no longer collecting, or in some cases not producing enough to keep up with supply. Semen priced too high can be the " kiss of death" for some bulls. JMO

50$ for a straw is perfectly reasonable for him imo, hes proven that he is worth it with a great set of calves on the ground and in the ring now

I'll spend $25 to $30 on Walks Alone, Monopoly, Heat Wave clone, Ali, WMW, Bojo and the list goes on. Semen sales will go down. The $50 is not that big of a deal if you knew for sure that the cow would take the 1st time but if it takes another straw, your out $50 more than the others. Any decent calf will bring $1,500 in the club calf business and any of the above bulls bring more than $1,500 on average. It's a matter of time till a clone or a brother to him comes out. I like eye candy and have seen some nice calves out of him but not any more than the bulls above and not good enough in my opinion to spend $50 a straw.

I would have to agree, he does not warrant the price jump, not when there's bulls like monopoly 2, bojo, bodacious ect. I'm glad I have a few straws ofhim my tank but, I won't be adding any more.

With calf prices the way they are that $5 dollar dairy bull might throw you a $1500 calf at the sale barn next fall.  (lol)

I really like the bull and as I said in an earlier post I was going to use him but I agree there are bulls out there for less money that will probably do me just as good of job.  <rock>

I'd say monopoly and eye candy are both worth the higher price but for a 25 b.i.m is doing good

I would use heat wave/monopoly clone an walk alone before him anyways. Those 3 win almost everything

I cant believe Walks Alone is still $25 after all the champs he has sired. BIM calves are looking great but he is $30 but well worth it IMO.

Master Of Puppets, I know it is hard to justify just yet. But from the calves that I have seen from him on the ground now, he will prove himself worthy.

I second that, I''ve had monopoly's but wasn't really impressed. Master of puppets gives a more consistent calf crop.  As of this far.  Different bulls work on different herds.  In my opinion smilin bob is the best bul on the market.  Breed him to smooth shouldered, deep bodied clubbier type cows and he'll do the rest.

I guess IMO it will really slow the movement of semen on EC, but according to Cattle.com's latest club calf sales average with EC coming in 3rd overall behind Milkman & Smilin Bob, it makes more sense to me than the array of brand new promoted bulls coming out @ $50.00 with no calves on the ground & all of the hype of the syndicated bulls. In the end the owners/promoters sure have the right to price/merchandise their bulls however they feel best. It does cost allot of money to promote a bull & is not easy by a long shot!!

i don't have a problem paying up for bulls that i know will work.  Like HW and Monopoly have proven their ability to work on certain cows and Mayer 734 before them.  If he is proven to be a producer on certain cows, it is foolish not to pay the extra $20-$25 and know what to expect.  I don't believe he is cloned and if demand is outpacing supply, the only way to equitably balance the demand equation is to raise prices.
