This post is not directed at anyone in particular, but I wanted to give some advice to the juniors on Steerplanet.  I, like most of the breeders that use facebook love having junior exhibitors request us as friends on Facebook.  Facebook gives us a way to let the youth, and even the adults know that we live real lives outside the showring or showbarn.  It allows us to communicate to our friends about the events we have coming up, and the cattle we have for sale.  We also like to keep up with the happenings of our friends, customers, and potential customers.  All that being said, if you choose to friend a breeder, remember to conduct yourself in a mature, respectful manner.  We are not interested in seeing your drama.  You may be thinking about your school friends when posting, but we can see the posts too.

One step further, when posting on any public forum, be it Facebook, Twitter, Steerplanet, Youtube, etc, if you do not want your grandparents, your coach, or anyone else that you respect to see what you write, then don't write it. Once you hit sent, it can never be taken back.

Stepping down from my soapbox now.

You know what, thank you. I am a "young adult" and I dislike drama VERY much and I always wonder why people post it on the internet instead of going to the person directly. I am glad you posted this, all the power to you.

American Honey...ZNT just gave you a good blog topic!  My neice who is getting ready to graduate from college said her professors are warning students about what they post on facebook.  Many potential employers check these sources.  You'd hate to have a picture of you partying at a frat party or something and your possible new employer sees that.  Many kids don't think about that.

Kids need to realize that when you friend a breeder of Facebook, you are voluntarily entering into a job interview.  SOMEWHAT.  The youth may not be trying to get a job with the breeder, but they may want to purchase or show a calf from the breeder.  In just all honesty, breeders want kids that will represent their cattle the best, meaning they may give more preference to a clean cut kid that has manners, and is respectful of not just adults, but other exhibitors.
