Favorite bull for Hair

What is your fav. bull to add hair. I want lots of hair on steers and im just starting to get in to AIing

After reading your criteria, seeming that hair is a priority I'm sure highlander will do the job, no guarantees on the rest of the calf but he would be fun to fit I imagine

I agree with above, but I'd sure find one valuable trait to select for first- and then focus on hair...

A little elbow grease goes a long way with hair too.

With all these clubby bulls, you don't really have to worry too much about hair.  It's really the last thing you want to look at when you select your calf.  Bleedin' Purple and Sunseeker sired more hair than just about anything else though, and they were pretty good calves too.

I am going to assume that you already know that there are other factors in sire selection, and you already know how you want to manage your herd.  I am also going to assume that you understand the "ins and outs" of growing hair.

With that said, IN MY OPINION, the bull that will genetically produce offspring that are the most likely to grow hair......(drum roll)......EYE CANDY!!! 

Eye Candy is out of a Pure Bred Galloway Cow, which will make every one of your calves at least 1/4 Galloway.  Have you seen the hair on those things?

Now get out there and get some of that stuff bought ASAP.  I hear that he died last week or something like that.

But seriously, I have seen lots of them.  We have one right now.  They have got some serious hair, and I am not kidding.

i agree with Eye Candy. I have a heifer out of him that is hairy year around. I am talking 5-7 inches (not kidding). But with his semen being $100/straw tha could be expensive. Sunseeker tend to have structure problems. A few bulls that I  used if you are wanting to breed clubby is
1) All About You (my calves had a tonnnnnnnn of yak)
2) Walks Alone
3) the main thing to keep in mind, unless your breeding galloway or highliner, Make sure you have TH in there. (TH=THE Hair gene)

While I agree with you on the hair and TH- there are exceptions.

We have very limited sample size so maybe some of you others can confirm or deny but we had a really hair Amen calf. Out of a cow that doesnt usually hair em up too much. Has that been anyone esles experience with Amen?

Not to be a smarta** but where did you measure?  That calf looks wooly but the only hair that is 6 inchs is at the end of his tail

Hairiest combo breeding I have seen is heat wave or monopoly on a friction cow. Fuzzzz

Galloways have way more to offer than just hair.  They are maternal cattle, structurally sound, heavy boned, smooth joints, and will give you a lot more muscling, length, and depth than any Highland cattle I have ever seen.

I agree 100% that Eye Candy will put some YAK hair on an animal.  The pics below will give you an idea how much hair I am talking about.

I know hair is the last thing to look for because they all have it. Eye Candy is great but $40 is as high as I'll go per straw and I absolutely will not breed to bulls with TH/PHA. I have pretty much got this years AI bulls figured out though,
