Fearless Champions show in Lubbock

I was looking at the winners in the steer show on The Pulse and noticed that some of steers didn't have their heads clipped. I realize this was a no fit show but is that a thing now?

I don't even like looking at fall born steers that they don't clip their sheath.

When i was teaching ag id do this alot with my calves the closer we got to county and fort worth. It tended to be because it never failed that as soon as we clipped the head the shucked hair like crazy. So i dont know if that the reason for some to do it that was just my reasoning. The only one i noticed was ryders polled and ill tell ya im sure that guy is going to odessa and they are saving as much hair on that calf as they can would be my guess.

That is the reasoning I have gotten with the fall born steers that are sold in the north. Makes sense.

Have heard the same from a lots of fellers over the years...I’ve never noticed it a bunch

I dont see it alot but when i do i usually know the reasoning. Its not ways true i have had calves that could grow hair it seems in a week  that other calves take all yr to grow.

Ringworm is another reason some leave that hair.  Some shows (Denver) won't let you through check in with visible ringworm.  Leave the hair until after check in, clip their heads with a short guard, scrub the ringworm, and nobody seemed to care.
