First calf from herd bull

Our herd bull is a red Smilin Bob x Money Man. His first calf was born this afternoon out of a pb shorthorn cow. We're excited that the birth weight was between 65 and 70 on the heifer.

Between 65 and 70 so was scale bouncing or was it a guess? I had 3 heifers side by side tonight and a guy who calves 200 a year couldn't guess within 15 pounds of anyone of them. If people don't weigh them I have hard time believing what weights are.

I weigh all my calves with a cotton scale.  Rarely is my guess more than a few lbs off.  Looking at them isn't gonna cut it. I need to pick them up and from there I have a very good idea.

Exactly XBAR. Looking at them 3 heifers last night guy called me crazy but I weighed them hanging on a scale and they look 10-20 pounds difference!

Yes it was just a guess, but she's pretty small. Here's a picture of the bull, still waiting for more calves out of him. He's 2 yrs old.
