Xbar- don't know if that question was in general or too me, but we are flushing to a Limousin bull named RUNL STETSON...... He is not a trait leader in either, but has a leading spread between the two. I am not one that thinks I am automatically going to breed heifers to the LOWEST BW, just a low birthweight. I would not breed big cows to the HIGHEST growth if the bw was out of wack, even if the cow could handle it, could her daughter handle her half of her epds when it comes to the calf. I think people get in trouble when they start looking at single trait selection, regardless of the trait...... Look at some of the topics, looking for most structurally correct...... Looking for bull that will breed up small or bring down big cows..... When you breed single trit, you get an imbalanced animal so you go try and breed for the trait the heifer lacks then repeat the process. Obviously you know what needs improved, but why focus so much on one trait that you neglect others is not a great way way to stay moderate, stay functional a d stay profitable......... If yu keep that in mind, why would you not be able to keep a heifer out of a heifer?
