First Calf

This little girl was born this morning. She probably wont be much of a show prospect but she is my first ever calf of my own so kind of exciting. She is a Three Trees Wind out of a Limflex heifer

Awesome!  There really is nothing like your first calf and to have it be a heifer and up and at it - that's what this is about!!

She sure looks sweet. Congratulations on what is hopefully a very long career in agriculture. I can still remember my first calf. A tiny little white heifer calf out of a 2 yr old who was a Clark granddaughter. I am sure you are as excited as I was then. Best of luck in the future.

Don't count the little heifer out just yet.  The Limi Flex Charolais cross is a good one and Three Trees Wind is a bull backed up by some good females.  She could make a good heifer project some day.
Are palnning on recording her with the Charolais Association?  Might not be bad idea.

Is there really any benefit to getting her registered? I could be wrong but from what Ive read you cant ever breed up to a pure bred char, and I have never been to a show around here where they had a compostit char class. If its going to benefit her in anyway I would look into it.    Thanks everyone for the comments

Is she eligible for any other registration?  If not, then the composite char papers at least get her into the AOB class instead of crossbred or market heifers.

she would only be 1/4 lim and 1/4 angus so dont believe she could be registered anything there                            when I bought I semen I didnt buy the Certificate, is it even still possible to get her registered?    And does anyone know what it would cost to register, Its the only calf I have with Charolais in her so it probably wouldnt be worth becoming a member

Yeah you can for sure still get her registered. Call up the Charolais Association or the place you got the semen, and ask them how you go about getting a cert for that bull.  They can cost anywhere from $5-50, but usually fall in the $15-25 range.  It would probably cost like $50 to actually register her since you're not a Charolais Assn member, but don't quote me on those prices.

Nice to see some pictures with the calf all dried off.  Keep the pictures coming as she gets older.
The cost to join the Charolais association is $ 30.00 a year for a junior membership.  The signing fee for the papers is $ 35.00 a year for Three Trees Wind.  The Charolais breed uses whole herd enrollment instead of a registration fee.  You pay every year to maintain the papers and EPDs on an animal.  If you register before April 1, 2010 the fee is $14.00 a year.  If you want to pull the papers you stop paying the fee.
Percentage Charolais shows are becoming more popular particularly as Red Factor Charolais become more popular in the United States so finding a place to show her particularly at Charolais Junior show should not be difficult.

In addition to the membership ($ 30.00)  and registration fee ( $ 14.00) if the calf is 0 to 4 months old.  You have to pay a signing fee to the owners of the bull.  In this case  it is $ 35.00.
If you want EPDs calculated you can do it two ways.  Pay $32.00 for the life of the animal or pay $14.00 annual enrollment fee per year.  I recommend paying the enrollment fee since having  EPDs on an animal improves its marketability and few if any animals are owned by a breeder for more than a couple years.
The total cost to register would be 84.00 with membership.  The cheapest way to go is to pay $ 28.00 non member registration and the $ 35.00 signing fee  for a total of $ 63.00. Note no access to EPDs in this case.

You may be too old to show junior, but take it from me if you can still walk you're never to old to show!  A number of shows are now offering AOB (all other breeds) or AORB (all other registered breeds) shows and we're enjoying showing our Durham Reds in these classes.  Our cattle & grandkids are what keep us moving!  Thanks for the pictures & go ahead & enjoy your little heifer.

Had my 2nd calf tonight. He is a Jakes Proud Jazz of of a Durham Red cow heifer. He was 4 days late but she popped him out in about 15 min and he was standing in about 10 min.
