What do you think of this one? She's a March heifer that was purchased in dam from Blair Athol Polled Herefords last fall. Her dam is a Blair Athol Classic daughter and she's sired by an NJW bull who is a maternal brother to Trust, Hometown and Downhome. She was second in class at our Canadian Junior Nationals and she'll be my show heifer this year.

Really like her looks. I would have guessed she was along those bloodlines. We have a February bull by trust that makes me think of her.

Thanks for the comments! I think she'll be fun to haul around and most importantly she's bred to be a really good cow.

Cebwtx: Nice bull, I agree that they have a really smiliar look to them!

Here's an updated picture of my heifer. I have decided not to show anything this fall so she isn't all cleaned up but I'm really happy with how she's developing. We call her the "gets fat on snowballs" type.

WOW! LOVE her! What's he sire's name? I've really been liking the Trust and Hometown calves! (thumbsup)

Thanks everyone!

We weren't very excited about the snow either CAB! It rained pretty much all summer so there is lots of crop still in the field. Between the declining cattle prices and tough harvest most of the farmers around here are feeling pretty down. On the upside (or maybe downside) the rain that we got this week knocked most of the snow down.

Simmgal: her sire's name is NJW 73S 22Z Mighty Max 97B ET.

I don't have any new pictures of this heifer so I figured I'd update this post with a picture of her 2017 born maternal sister. She's pictured here at 2.5 weeks old. I think this one could be even better than the first.

That new baby is really gonna be a barn burner-when you look at them both at an early age. Funny how diffferent breeds develope in different ways. The first sister looked kind of gangly etc but bodied down and filled out way more than a Shorthorn-or many x breds would O0

Any idea of a bull that would work on black Simmy or Angus heifers to create black baldies that can show?

Thanks Mark, the older sister really surprised me with how deep she got and hopefully the little one will too. I think the younger one will be a little more complete with a bit more frame and bone- I intend to keep them both so I'll get to see how they mature.

Mark H- I personally haven't used either but both 719T and Lambeau are popular heifer bulls that wouldn't sacrifice any style. I raised a bull named You Tube that I think would work excellent on Simmy heifers but unfortunately we don't have any semen in the states. Others may be able to chime in with more suggestions.

I thought I’d update this post for anyone following along.

Below are updated pictures of 49D as a two year old, her maternal sister 6E as a yearling and their little brother 53F at 5.5 months old (53F is on the next page).

I bought their mother for well below the sale average but it’s safe to say she’s earned her keep!

The little brother- I really wanted another heifer but I think he’s kind of cool.

Looking goo Larissa.  That bull calf will help pay some bills I bet.  Or you could go buy another heifer....just saying ;)

Thanks! You must have read my mind because that’s my exact plan. Paying bills is no fun but buying heifers sure is! Haha
