How did you do with your heifers? I watched the Shorthorn and Maine heifers. Tough competition.

My youngest son won his class with his Brangus Heifer and was ignored in Division.  She was the oldest calf in Division and 5 months bred, the judge really hammered the older girls that were carrying condition.  He used the youngest Division in the breed to stand as Breed Champion.  My oldest son had a January '08 Angus and stood 9th out of 21 in class.  We feel she would have moved up 3 to 4 slots had she not been sheared on show side from her ultra-sound test.  It is a long story, overall felt very well about the boys performance in the ring.  Thanks for asking.

Great job! The brangus show looked really tough and very deep. I can't wait to see the steers show next week.

I watched the first 6 classes of Maine heifers and the quality was good in the top 5 of each class. Div. 2 Duncan Danner got res. div champ. He got robbed in opinion. I didn't see the older classes or the Champ. Drive.

BIGTEX,  Come by and visit with us.  We will be with Garrison FFA, they will have 7-8 head there.  You will be able to pick out the orange and white steer pretty easy, he weighed 1175 yesterday.  We are having trouble removing stains off of his hips, tried everything I can think of.  Any ideas?

I will stop by next week. Can't wait for the STEERS! Good Luck!

Please do and thanks, the boys will need all the luck they can get. One steer has an outside chance the other will end up slick and in Houston.

His dad buys hay from my brother and my neighbor.  They have some good cattle.  We talk Maines all the  time.

It is not the first time he got robbed, but that is part of the show life.  I watched a show this week and the champion would not have won it's class if I were the judge but that is way it goes.  I will not use an animal in a breeding class no matter how good it is if it does not travel correctly.  Have you noticed how many young bulls are listed as deseased.  If I know the reason it is dead, then I will use the semen but if I do not know I will not due to too many cannot travel well.

He didn't get robbed much last year.  Is he still showing that one or is he dragging a new one?  I haven't been out enough this year to know.

I would say she was 12-15 mts old. A little tight in the rear, but moved as good as any ahead of her.

Well it is time, the steers are at Fort Worth waiting to show on Thursday.  We have a slight problem on our best steer, he has a swollen front knee.  Wish the boys luck they will need it.  If you know of any legal remedies to help our situation let me hear them.

Txshowlamb aka Brittney is on her way right now with her hereford steer.  If you guys and gals get a chance look her up and give her a big hug for me and tell her good luck!  She's pretty nervous but she's done a bang up job with her little guy Harley!
