Hey Mark, what do the letters, after the names of the parents, mean in the pedigrees? (QSR) (QPR) (QS) (Q) you get the idea.
Also when she says Homo Red, does that mean free of the diluter gene?

The letters mean:
Q-Red or Black animal
P-Polled
S-Scurred
You can combine Q with S or P to arrive at a prefix along with C.  The C stands for Canada.
If they are Homo red (dark red)  or black in any form then they lack the diluter gene.
The interesting thing about Janice is that she started out with one heifer and worked from there. This should be an example many members with dreams here like to see.

Unless things have changed in the last year or so, the US Char assoc will not accept black or red char papers.  I remember this was an issue when someone wanted to reg a black char in the US and they did not allow it.

Does anyone have any current information? It would be terrible for someone to buy some of these animals only to have them rejected in the US assoc.

From the AICA rule book:
In the fall of 1996, AICA moved ahead with establishing a registry to include red factor Charolais. This allows animals that are otherwise eligible for registration in the Purebred Registry except for color to be registered in the Red Factor Division of the Charolais Herd Book. The animals will be registered and identified by having the initials QF preceding the registration number for females and QM preceding the registration number for bulls. The following are points to remember when registering red animals:

1. Such animals shall conform to all current requirements for registration in the AICA in force at the time of application for registration.
2. Such animals shall have not less the 31/32 Charolais blood.
3. Progeny of such animals shall be registered only in the Red Factor Division Registry, regardless of their color.
4. Such animals shall be subject to the standard parentage verification test in accordance with current AICA parentage verification procedures at the time of application for registration, under the circumstance required by these by-laws.

Important for the shw crowd:

"Q" registered cattle do not compete in shows with cattle from the Purebred Registry.

For Charolais-cross under 31/32:
a. except for the first cross, the sire and dam must be registered or recorded in AICA herdbook
b. dam or sire on first cross must be registered Charolais not less than 31/32
c. sire having less than the 3/4 Charolais breeding is not eligible for recordation

DISQUALIFICATIONS
1. For purebreds 31/32 and up and notwithstanding parentage verification by DNA testing:
a. color is white, light straw, or light cream with pink skin
b. animal must not have a dark nose
c. animal must not be spotted
d. animal must not have excessive dark skin pigmentation
e. animal cannot have an unidentified sire or dam

I was given the impresion that any animals that violate the color of skin or hsir rules are religated to the Q registry.  Do you have any definative statement from the AICA this is not so?

Black animals cannot be registered in the AICA.

5. Registration in Colored Division Registry: Animals subject to the color disqualifications contained in Section V.1. a
through d but otherwise eligible for registration in the Purebred Registry shall be eligible for registration in a Colored Division
Registry, the exception being black animals. The Association will register and identify Colored Charolais cattle meeting the criteria
described below by having the initials QF preceding the registration number for females and QM preceding the registration number
for bulls.
a. Such animals shall conform to all current requirements for registration in the AICA in force at the time of application for
registration.
b. Such animals shall have not less than 31/32 Charolais blood.
c. Progeny of such animals shall be registered only in the Colored Division Registry, the exception being black animals.
