Fun calf names for this year!

Sometimes we have such creative people here. Was wondering what some of your calf names have been so far this year? Or for you fall calvers what did you name some last year?

Since the Maine's inital this year is U, it has been very challenging. so far my names have been:

Tippy- born in 2007
Uno- first bull calf born ( Telos -red steer)
Ultra- heifer
Ursa- heifer- means bear which is what she looks like!
Easter- heifer, OK I went off track on this one but she was born on Easter Sunday & wanted to celebrate our Lord
Ulysses- bull

Still have one more to go & haven't decided what to name it yet.

So what creative ones have you come up with? Or what was the best one you had another year?

We don't have the 2008 calves named yet but a couple of the 2007 show heifers are Loralei and Leah - my daughter is the namer and she doesn't give a hoot about the year letter! LOL!! 

Do you put their names on the tags?  Here is what happens at our house.  The show heifers are handled every day and they are known by name - not tag/tattoo number.  So since DH puts the cow's number on the calf tag, he gets all mixed up if he puts the show heifer's tag number on there.    Example:  He can't find cow #5166 anywhere but he wants to move her calf.    He also can't find Maisy's calf.  And there stands Maisy with big yellow 5166 tags in both ears.  So now he puts the show heifer/cow's name on the calf's tag.

so many of my calves are looking similar this year, I'm threatening to paint numbers on them! We don't tag the ones at home but the farm does.

When we purchased Whitney she just had a farm name so we changed it to Whitney, named after Pop singer Whtiney Houston.  We just had an ET Hard Core daughter of Whitney and staying with the Pop Star theme, we named her Miley after Miley Cyrus.

we dont have very many so we dont really go with the year letter.  But today I realized we sorta did for last year. 
We had
Tux (dams name is Missy so Mr. Tux works)
Twister
Dewey (named after a good friend)
Freight (He has a behind ;D)

Heifers
Ashley (my cousins name is ashley and shes a mommas girl, well this calf started climbin the walls in the trailer for her momma.  She was rightfully named.)
Moe (She had a high fever at birth and lost all her hair Larry, Curly, and Moe)
Lynn
Nicole
Rose (lynn nicole and rose are my sisters and my middle names)

A few years ago we had a Daybreaker and Shay so we called them Shay and Day.

I am think about Shadallion for a bull calf this year what do ya'all think to girly?  The reason is the dams name is Shay and her sire is Medallion, so Shadallion or Shay's Dallion.  As a joke we have a dam named Godess and her calf was up and walking quickly after birth so Walking Godess.  LOL  My sister and I joke about names all the time.  She has a heifer named Keeper and shes bred to a bull named Iron Man so they're gonna have a Keeper Man.  LOL funny names

We give the calves names that start with the first letter of the dam's name. We have two dams that start with "D" so we have to come up with a lot of "D" names but it is just a fun way for us.
As a side note, we bought a steer last fall as a possible county fair calf and he had a tag with "14" in his ear. We did not come up with a name right away and called him "14". Well it is several months later and he is still "14", just kinda stuck and seems to fit him well.

That is so funny! We bought a heifer last year w/ 14 ear tag too. She's known as 14 now!

Well, we might be boring but we are naming ALL of our bulls "Nelson" followed by their i.d. number and year letter.  I have a really nice bull calf out of our "2M" cow so his number is "2U".  I was just thinking yesterday that if he turned into a bull prospect we could do an advertisement as "Here's 2U!"  Sorry, sick sense of humor!  LOL

My kids love coming up with names.
We have Susie Lou her babies name is Betty Lou
My heifer Abbey (named after the kids favorite babysitter) has baby Emily (the babysitters sister lol0
Delilah (my daughters show heifer last year) had a money man bull-  His name is Mucho Dinero
Our Money Man heifer had a CTR Success bull- his name is Donald Trump
They are still working on our 2 Mama's Boy bull calves.  Heaven only knows what they will be lol (lol)

I don't want to ''nit-pick'', but, since I just got done with a Dental appointment, I'll be the same, ol', usual, sweet self and spell it out for Y'uns.

Name Heifers the same name as their Mamas, except with different numerical identity ( year/month of birth, and ''roll number'', for ex: Augusta Bloom 97-3, or, GM Maggie 235th). This is called manitaining  the integrity and identity of Cow Families. I got this indoctrination from Russell Sloan. He had Joy Maids, Butterflies, Claras, Foxgloves, Chrissy's,and, a couple others that I can't remember off the top of my head. Gosh, I miss him. Tom Deffenderfer, and Dr. C.E. Harlan, too.

Gets kinda confusing to me to go to a sale and not be able to tell ''what's what'' anymore. Buffy's cute & all, but, where'd her female ancestors hail from? That kind of pedigree information is equally as important, Ladies & Gents, as the Sire, or, "Sire Line" ( for ex: Eagle, Drive, Leader, Gold, etc), to prospective buyers wishing to establish consitent, uniform herds. You'd be amazed, at how much  it'd help to make breeding decisions by doing this.

Yes, I know, individuals are born that stand apart from their peers in the herd, from time to time , that deserve unique names.

Oh, yeah, quit naming 'em after Alcoholic Beverages, Illegal Drugs, or Sexually-oriented themes. Kids are watching our every move.

Gary bob- they didn't give you enough drugs!!!  I guess I like the cute or fun names. I register them so if someone needs to look up their pedigree it's there. Of course I have a small herd so it's easy for me.

Here's a couple:

We have a bull calf on the ground out of a red cow we call Ginger and Sin City - were callin him SMOOTH CRIMINAL

A second  Sin City calf we have dubbed BODY OF EVIDENCE

Another is out of a blaze faced cow named Misty bred to Sin City also - a massive blue roan known as MIGHTY JOE YOUNG (kinda looks like a silver back gorilla)

My daughter's hereford is named FIONA - her calf next year should be fun to name, dependant on the bull we use?!?!?

I've already got a name for next year. My foreplay cow is bred to gigolo Joe. If it's a heifer then it's going to be FloJo. I'm leaning towards Java Joe if a bull.

Hey Gb I would like it better if you could make a suggestion instead of just telling us Y uns that we do everything wrong and that it should be done your way. I do name my purebred shorts that way but you telling me I have to do it that way to be correct it just not nice.  Frostback

Gary Bob, lighten up a little bit geesh.  My kids own a bulk of our best cows.  They bought them, they help with the chores.  If they want to name it Inklebird Hooperhumpkink they can.  Its there choice for there hard work.  In my opinion, if it keeps my kids excited and interested I'm all for it.  If I had to take them out to check 22 Heathers they wouldn't be able to tell one from another.  My kids are 10 and 5, they may not know eartag 301 from 22 but there able to tell you who Queen is and who Delilah is.  It's just my little way of really making it a "family" farm here in NW MO

I forgot to mention that while I name them with the dams name I do change it slightly so they are easeir to remember. Just changing the numbers gets too confusing to me. I usually put a name either in front or behind that old name that starts with the year letter.

My son named our 07 steer Kreg, but the breeder thought we named him Bruce, so all the while he was still there he was called Bruce.
It just fit him so well, we called him Bruce-a-Billion. Because it cost a Billion to feed him.
Our Heifer is Sassy and she is just that!
This year for 08 we have a Heatwave named Alvin, and another Heatwave that looks just like him named Simon.
Theodore will probably be a pig.
