Funny text from Wife about Feeding Cows

I was out of town last week taking some of my FFA members to a convention.  On Wednesday my hired help got sick and had to go the hospital which left my wife to take care of all the feeding.  On Thursday night I received the following text message on my phone:

Here's a few reasons why it is better for the hubby to feed the cows...... 1) dusty hay boogers are not cool after age 10. 2) falling between the hay bales hurts at advanced weights. 3) driving a tractor in a foot of mud means a loss of control. 4) short people can't see the driveway with 4 bales of hay in the bucket 5) playing hide and go seek for tools is not that much fun. 6) crossing a large puddle of mud & water while carrying a bale of hay will eventually make u fall into the puddle 7) It is way to tempting to say you fed and just skip it... 8) & finally touching sticky gooey newborn calf balls is actually creepy!

This made me laugh and I wanted to share it with those who would understand.

That can get really expensive.  They always get the better half of whatever you thought you owned.  Find the right one the first time.

A couple years ago I took my wife on a 25th ann. cruise. My city girl mother in law stayed with our 16 y.o. son. My son calls a couple days later just hysterically laughing- gma had decided to help him chore and walked out of both rubber boots in the feed lot. I start laughing every time I think of it- and usually find a reason to bring it up every time she visits.

When we first got are boys involved with animals my wife was into it, once we started with cattle, and she was home during the day she would just go up and rinse them in the middle of the day even though the boys would do it when they got home from school. One year we had a goof ball steer that you could not help but like, she became attached, after that she would come up occasionally and check on them but never did much where she could get attached again. She still was involved just would not let herself get to close.

2 years ago we had a sow that was bred for fair pigs, she started to farrow at about 10 pm, by midnight there was nothing, I tried to go in and pull the pig it was backwards and I could not get my hand around to get a hold of it, I went to the house to see if she would help, 3 hours later she had delivered all the pigs by pulling each one as they came, (Sow was just worn out, my fault) She slept to 6 got up took a shower and went to work. I will keep her, she may complain but when the chips are down she will be the first one to kick you in the but to get going and make it work. (we know have the tongs for pulling pigs)

well she isn't my wife yet but my fiance has pretty much run the farm on a couple of occasions.  She has pulled calves, made hay, sprayed crops, and pretty much everything else.  If we both are around we are usually working on something together.  I just wish I could hire a farmhand as good as she is

What if you don't have anything but a bunch of loans and IOU's?? 

Mine's a keeper...  I'd rather knock em in the head, but she loves bottle calves and lambs...  Get dirty?  Shoot role in the mud more like it!

Mines pretty good too! She irrigates drives the tractors shes the doc at branding time. She does it all. If you guys have not heard the song by Garth Brooks "Cowboy Cadillac" you need to it perfectly describes what these ladies are to us.

Gotta say, Tina's doing a great job of keeping things running here while I'm laid up with this knee surgery. She can cowboy up and run the skid loader with the best when she has to!

Glad to read all the responses.  Even though the cows are not my wife's "thing" she has always been supportive and the biggest trooper when I need help.  I am very fortunate to have her by my side.

Mine grew up with cattle, but that doesn't stop her from giving me an earful when I'm away on travel eating at nice restaurants, staying in nice hotels while she's dealing with whatever shenanigans the cows or the show calves have saved up for her while I'm gone.  Latest crisis is a couple of weeks ago when lice decides to show up a show calf one evening while I'm gone.  She has to go chase down the wormer and give everyone a dose + a good scrubbing - even the unbroken ones.

Last winter she was having to carry a feed sack through deep mud in the dark and rain.  She hit a deep pocked and fell over face first.  Luckily she avoided a complete face plant because she actually landed on the sack.  My 8 year old was sitting in the truck watching and called me on the cell phone while he was watching momma try to extricate herself.  I told him I hoped he had enough sense not to be laughing.
