This morning, I went outside and found this little fellow haunting my showheifers. I have never seen one this close up, so I figured that I'd share.
... To bad he showed up for the wrong holiday :D

consider yourself lucky.  One of those little guys can eat up to 1000 mosquitos in one night.  (thumbsup)

We are very blessed then. This fellow has many many friends. I hope they have their fill every night.

Yes, we do have grass!!! But we need to fertilize and put up a fence so the working ladies can have a go at it.

The bats scare me too sometimes. I always work my heifers at dusk, and towards the end of "practice", we have bats flying over our heads and zooming downward occasionally. i guess thats B/C they have just found a tasty mosquito ;D

They say as long as you don't swing your arms or badmitton racquets, brooms, ect.-you'll be fine but if you swing something then they detect the frequency and try to fly below it, therefore getting caught in your hair or coming at your face.  Ignore them, they'll ignore you???  We have quite a few in summer, but they tend to hover in the bigger barn, they don't hang out in the show barn for some reason.

I actually put up bat houses!! Love them little buggers!

In fact, as crazy as it sounds, we were tearing down an old hog building and half way through noticed there were bats in the insulated space, so I halted everything, and after a week, all the bats had relocated (some to my bat houses) and destruction continued!  I think the backhoe and dozer guy thought I had lost my mind!!

When i was in First grade (now im a freshman) we opened a door to one of our big sheds. A bat fell out of the track and landed in my moms hair. it stayed there for quite a few minuites. we put it in one of those bug carriers that every kid had when they were little. and brought it in to school. pretty unique.

Steer Boy, consider yourself lucky. You must have the coolest Mom around. I was thinking about what the women in this house would be doing if a bat was in their hair. It wouldn't be done in "minutes", I can tell you that for sure. LOL. Brent

I agree, my mother would have jumped up and started screaming the second she thought that there was a bat in her hair.  ;D

Bat Update.
The rascall had flown into our barbed wire fence and gotten himself caught. Thankfully, we found this out and were able to set him free. I really think he knew we were helping him b/c he didn't try to bite or get away. He flew off, so his wing must not have been torn. It looked like he had just caught his foot.  Then, a few minutes later, a bat flew right at me. My dad says it was him thanking me. I haven't screamed that loud in a while though. lol

just now remembered this. when i was in daycare (3-5 i think) we would take walks way back in the woods with the guy who i in a sense consider to be my grandpa. we went back there and there was an old swing set. you know swings, slide, other thing on swing sets. i climbed up on the bar that goes across the legs and looked in the top pipe thing where plastic was gone and a bat came hauling a$$ out through the pipe right into my face. i fell flat on my back and the thing flew around for a minute before leaving. you can imagine how terrified my 3-5 year old self was  :D
