"Good" Angus Bulls

Not into the Angus deal- alot.. Buddy wants to breed some heifers to generate a new herd bull- want's my advice-- "since I'm more widespread then they are"... 

Needs-  Good built, PRACTICAL cattle.  Upper 5 frame, plenty thick, correct, stout boned.  lots of body.  "outcross" wouldn't be bad either.  Really needs to be heifer safe, as this is who they want me to AI in the spring.  But open to any suggestions.  I know they have alot of Stockman 365, and N. Improvement already.  I think right now they have a Mytty In Focus son atop the board that they aren't "real" happy with.  Very inconsistant.   

I don't think the smaller, Duff, OCC genetics will work out, from what I've heard.  They have to have cattle with some grow to them, nothing under mid frame 5-ish. 

I don't really remember anything from my days in Denver the last 3 years.  Won't be back to CO this year.  At the time, I wasn't into looking for Angus bulls.

I'll be able to tell you how Silveiras Style calves out in a couple of months.  He looked to have all of the qualities you were looking for.  Not sure how he will be on heifers.  His full brother(El Capitan) was used successfully on heifers.

SAV Bismark, BC Matrix, PVF Payday, Limestone Darkhorse, SAV 8180 Traveler 004. A bull that caught my attention this year at Denver was Dawsons Cherokee 166. There were 4 or 5 calves there that I saw, all at different places and I was impressed. The owners said he would moderate a little, but I wouldn't put him in the same category as the Duff and OCC genetics. I like the darkhorse calves that I have seen, seem to be consistent.

Used the Matrix alot...... Love the hiefiers they just pop... Used the 004 bull for prolly 4 years... Nice mommas....... We used the Final Answer bull last year and never assisted any of them....... You'd see the hiefiers and go back an hour later and they would have a baby up and nursed.....Most rest I've ever gotten during hiefier calving...

I think that Tc freedom would work pretty good. His bw epd doesn't suggest him being ok for heifers but I have never had any problems with him on heifers.

Rodman was a bull that I thought about, and popped into my head off the bat, from what I have seen, and heard out of him.  But upon looking at his picture, he doesn't appear to correlate between upper body, and lower 1/3 stoutness.  Does this bull have, put, or create enough bone in his offspring?  Have you directly been involved with, or seen any of them?  I have not, just hear say.  Or is my view just optical illusion based upon his shear power through the upper portion?  I don't like that his son pictured above him is knee deep in straw-- this means either he doesn't have enough bone, or isn't deep enough?  Am I wrong??

Thank you everyone for your input...  I will be anaylzing this generated list, and still looking for more options.   Again, I have until May to choose, so I'm not in a huge HURRY!

Matrix calves easy but they would not grow for me.

We used Freedom on heifers about four years ago.  Didn't have a single problem.  I think the weight comes with the extra length that they have.  That said....I think the heaviest freedom calf I had was 82 pounds.  I don't think that's asking too much from a heifer.  If they can't do that with a normal presentation I don't want them.

Iron Stone was one that I thought of as well.  Probably the best, clean, Future Direction son available.  Highly recommended by my ABS supplier even over In Focus and New Image.  Maybe not as stout boned or clean fronted so probably not a steer sire, but certainly good and worthy of consideration.

Rod Man sired the Reserve Angus female in Louisville this year. He is the real deal. Huge foot, good bone, but not like a Maine.  I used to have his picture from the JSAR catalog when he sold to Schnoor's as a two year old. He was my pick from the sale.  I will see if I can find it.  Titan looked better IMO.  Jones and Stewart claim that Titan is the thickest Angus bull they have raised.  He is currently well above average for CED, CEM and milk to boot.

My buddy is using Kodiac pretty heavy and he might have flushed to him, can't quite remember. But he sure has high hopes on him. He used him on a Masterpiece daughter and I can't remember the others for sure.

I second that! Calves that I saw out of the Limestone bulls, Divide's were consistently the better ones.
