My daughter, a 16 year old junior, just placed first in the Missouri FFA State Livestock Judging contest!!!!!! Her team was 2nd overall, so she will not get to compete at the FFA National Convention, but she does have the honor of saying she won the State FFA Livestock judging contest. I am just so proud of her!!!! Her team has worked hard to get here.

I think that livestock judging and horse judging are two of the best things a youngster can do.  It teaches them so many important skills.  Congrats to her!

Tell her congrats.  Her team will get to go to Louisville or maybe Denber and compete there I believe. The third place team in Missouri FFA Livestock competes at the American Royal.

If she knows where she wants to go to school, if she would like to judge @ the next level, she needs to be letting the Livestock Judging coaches know. A girl with a great ability to judge can be a great asset on a team.

Thanks all. I am still on cloud nine, and she is the one that won! We are hoping for some scholarships, and she thinks she wants to go to Missouri University or College of the Ozarks (4 year college- also known as "hard work U" out here).  C of O is a Christian college where they work for their tuition, so they graduate debt fee. She originally wanted to be a vet, but after knowing the debt load and field, she is thinking of other career choices (she currently works part time at a vet clinic and dairy). I am trying to steer her toward reproduction. She is very good at AI and does her own selection of who she breeds her cows to. She has a natural talent.
SOMO, not sure where they go. She will get home around one this morning, so tomorrow I will get more information. She has to work at the vet clinic till noon, then she is heading to the Owens sale to help with the lunch/sale that the juniors do. She will be exhausted! Good thing she has Monday off school for spring break..... ;D

Congrats on her judging success.

But the 'debt load' shoudln't even be a consideration is she wants to become a vet.  Do what makes you happy.  I bet the premium a vet is paid over ANY other ag related fields would more than justify the additional expense of going to vet school.
