Our festivities have started, we don't take the heifers in until Sunday but we had the fashion review last night.  <party>My daughter had champion in her division.  This is her second year.  Now the judging of the sewing technique and foods (muffins this year) is Saturday morning.

YEAH!!!!!  I was an avid sewer and knitter in 4-H.  People don't appreciate how much time and work goes into making an outfit. (clapping) (clapping) (clapping)

We have to do some pj bottoms this week or next.  Seems like were running out of time to get our still projects done.

My mom, grandmother & great grandmother all spent lots of time sewing.  I've never sewn, but I've seen enough outfits made to know that a lot of work goes into it!  I applaud those that do those types of thing & try to do a good job.  Congrats on winning the champion in her division!!

(clapping)  Good for her!!  I'm not much of a sewer although lord knows my mother tried!!!  I just didn't have the patience.  However, I think that it's a great thing for young ladies to learn.  Congrats and good luck with the rest of your fair!!!    (clapping)

when i was in 4-h i always took the market projects...steer, lamb, pig...if it was an animal project, i had it.....that's all i wanted to take...but mom insisted that i take the sewing and cooking projects as well....i fought her tooth and nail about it....but now, i'm so glad she made me stick to it!!!   in fact, i ended up making it to the state fashion show a couple times....you should have seen me the first time on the "catwalk," lol   i practically ran across the stage!!!  made it back behind the curtain before the mc finished reading my description, lol....all in all, it didn't hurt me any...i could sew just about anything if i needed to and cooking....well, i can cook anything in the project books, but that's about the extent of my culinary skills....its good enough we don't go hungry, lol...

congrats to your daughter!!!  her outfit is really cute!!!  <party>

Way to go!! My daughter had been doing buymanship, sewing & modeling every year. Alas, this will be the last. The work they do does pay off. She makes some mad money sewing on buttons and doing clothing repair at college for all her dorm mates.

The funniest thing was when the nerves hit right before she had to do it she started into how stupid she looked and how she did not want to do it.  Then she saw a girl who had made a red polka dot skirt and dressed like Minnie Mouse.  She looked at me and said "well I guess I don't look THAT stupid".

The video camera was shaking while I was filming though.  Apparently someone has been watching too much America's Next Top Model.  There were 3 X's on the stage they were supposed to go to and "pose".  She hit the first one and whipped her hands up on her hips and spun around.  I almost fell over.  I am surprised she didn't throw a wink  at the judge.

It amazes me how nervous she can be and practically have meltdown and then go perform like that.  Same way with the cattle.  Before the first class she loses it.  I started giving her Hyland's Nerve Tonic, homeopathic tablets that work like a charm to chase away the really bad jitters.  Just didn't realize we would need them for the fashion revue!!

As a 4-H alum, I love that some people are still in it.  Since I got out of 4-H my old club shrank from about 50 active members to so small that it had to join with another club just to keep the kids in it.  Also a great recipe to try is Mahogany Chifan Cake.  I made it when I was still in 4-H and got grand champion.  Every year since that same recipe has got either grand or reserved at our county fair.

We have muffins this year, anyone have any good recipes for that?  We have tried a bunch and none seem to hit the both thumbs up mark.
