Gubmint and How Gubmint Works

Once upon a time the government had a vast scrap yard in the middle of a desert. Congress said, "Someone may steal from it at night." So they created a night watchman position and hired a person for the job.

Then Congress said, "How does the watchman do his job without instruction?" So they created a planning department and hired two people, one person to write the instructions, and one person to do time studies.

Then Congress said, "How will we know the night watchman is doing the tasks correctly?" So they created a Quality Control department and hired two people. One to do the studies and one to write the reports.

Then Congress said, "How are these people going to get paid?" So They created two positions: a time keeper and a payroll officer, then hired two people.

Then Congress said, "Who will be accountable for all of these people? So they created an administrative section and hired three people, an
Administrative Officer, Assistant Administrative Officer, and a Legal Secretary.

Then Congress said, "We have had this command in operation for one Year and we are $918,000 over budget, we must cutback." So they laid off the night watchman.

NOW  slowly,  let it sink in.

Quietly, we go like sheep to slaughter.

So let’s put it in REAL terms….
Does anybody remember the reason given for the establishment of the DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY... during the Carter Administration?

Anybody?

Anything?

No?

Didn't think so.

Bottom line. We've spent several hundred billion dollars in support of an agency....the reason for which not one person who reads this can remember!

Ready??
It was very simple...and at the time, everybody thought it very appropriate.

The Department of Energy was instituted on 8/04/1977,

TO LESSEN OUR DEPENDENCE ON FOREIGN OIL.

Wow, pretty efficient, huh??

AND NOW IT'S 2010 -- 33 YEARS LATER -- AND THE BUDGET FOR THIS "NECESSARY" DEPARTMENT IS AT $24.2 BILLION A YEAR. IT HAS 16,000 FEDERAL EMPLOYEES AND APPROXIMATELY 100,000 CONTRACT EMPLOYEES; AND LOOK AT THE JOB IT HAS DONE! (THIS IS THE TIME YOU SLAP YOUR FOREHEAD AND SAY, "WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?")

33 years ago 30% of our oil consumption was foreign imports.
Today 70% of our oil consumption is foreign imports.

Ah, yes -- good old Federal bureaucracy.

NOW WE HAVE TURNED OVER THE BANKING SYSTEM, HEALTH CARE, AND THE AUTO INDUSTRY TO THE SAME GOVERNMENT?

everyone should work for the government.

maybe we should call this program the department of education or the seiu or something similar.  no one should be allowed to work in the private sector.  the entire economy should be managed, that way things will be fair.

I personally would like to see the entire House of Rep and the entire Senate voted out of their jobs regardless of party affiliation.  Everyone owes everyone.  The you scratch my back and I will scratch your back is out of control.

the dept of energy was instiuted to relax our dependency of foriegn oil..( sound familair?...still havent been able to keep up with those guys....exon/ bp/ect..)
it was also assigned to establish local and national and world wide nuclear energy protocal....and global nulear  waste management
regan and bush sr. however   trashed that with there iran/contral deals of the past....so other than the hundreds of thoudsands or so jobs it supported in the last thirty years the dept of energy is just a complete failure and waste of tax payers money over the last 30 years.....same with the dept of education/ the enviromental protection agency / the dept of agriculture/ and the unioted states postal service ....who needs em.....its just a couple hundred thousabnds worthless jobs for amercians  ...didnt need em in the 1800's....dont need em now..or so they say
unless of coures your a student in college who is majoring in energy based majors/ educatrion/ envioremental enginering/ or a career in agriculture.
you students have heard the talk around town though.....if these programs werent necessary in the 1800's....we dont need em' now....so they got to go...who needs em....waste of tax payers money.....and its right around the corner
your not competing with other students in your field....your simply trying to keep employers around to exercise your persued professions...good luck young students and future scholars in envoromental sciences/agricultre/education/energy effiency and management/ and governement studies...your future doesnt presently lie in you up comming test scores....right now it lies in your up comming vote...jbarl

no department should ever be reduced or eliminated after it is successful, it should only be increased with benefits far exceeding the private sector for the same level or lower job.

everyone should work for the government.

no job is too small not to be taken under the umbrella of the government.

no young person should ever major in anything unless it offers a government job.

there should be a department of the "the elimination of private sector industry" so that all students are safe and guaranteed a job because the government is going to regulate them out of business.

tofu should replace beef.

google, 2% tax.  they should pay 35% and pay their fair share of all the socialist policies they want instead of foisting it on others.

of course there are lots of right leaning companies doing the same, so, let's end the bs and pay one rate with NO exemptions which are of course doled out by each party fairly equally to the detriment of small business.

Its definitely leaning that way in our area.  We have many many friends that work for the government.  Husband, wife, kids.  If most of them had to actually get a regular private sector job or work for themselves I don't know where they'd be.  We were talking about this last night.  Just like all our government (senators & HORs)  I'm with SWMO they all need kicked out and replaced with successful private sector business people.  If the economy stays in the dump we all will start seeing (already are) a lot of criminal activity in order for the high rollers to stay high rolling...

Exactly, i'm with you.  I live in a small ranching community.  400 people in a 1000 square miles, 10 kids per class in high school.  It is extremely hard to find a family in this community that does not have someone working for the school as an aid, teacher, janitor, be a county commisssioner, post office workers, clerk and treasure at the court house , sherriff, road worker, benefits from the city board, state highway worker. not to mention health care people.  I could count the families on my two hands that don't have a member to these.  Pretty sad.

its not sad... its reality......the dept of energy/agriculture/epa ect fund thousands of projects that our  college grads our now doing as careers...how many millions of dollars in  programs did rupert murdouch sponser for our graduating educated workforce..?
its the fear  of people with jobs have ...against the people who dont have now  .....that is really sad.....
who do you think put all these people out of work??...the governement?  or  corporations??
why would the governement want corporations to ship all our work over seas and ruin our economy??....because those are the rules... and they can
.....and which side of the arguement  wants to change that??
and which side of the argument wants to keep it the same??  jbarl

why sponsor anyone when you can hire them?  something obama and the democrats know absolutely anything about, unless it's google, and they don't pay taxes.

It is sad because theres so much money wasted on red tape, just getting programs implemented.  Theres government jobs that aren't needed.  No child left behind, i feel for the disadvantaged kids, but that program has put a huge burnden on school systems.

why pay two milion dollars to reelect right wing cantidates to ensure that corporations keep there ability to move all of our work over seas, and still recieve "there" own entiltements, yet no one holds them responsible, or god forbid ask them to help with the solution....ie..the right wants the governement out of our lives, yet they hold them responsible and expect them to "fix" this and every other mess we have as a nation...
" if i'm not responsible, and your not responsible....then someone is irresponsonible".....jbarl

Big government is not good. Good government is not big. They should put this phrase on coinage and flags.

maybe after the dept of energy / dept of agriculture/ dept of defense/ department of homeland security/ dept of transportation / social security / medicare/ medicaid/ are finally abolished.....and the fourteenth amendment is chaged to suit the right ....and all the abortion doctors are killed, and all the illegal immigrants are tucked comfortable into there newl legal working status ...then  they can get around to changing the phrases on coins and flags....
but then... who is "they".... maybe rupert murdoch will pitch in and pay for that....just asign it to someof his " employees"....jbarl
