I was just wondering about the facilities at Grand Island. I heard they are fairly new. Will we need to bring generators? How hot will the barns be? What can a 9 and 6 year old do around town when they are not at the barns? Any great places to eat?

I've heard the same. Also, does anyone know what the WiFi situation is? The website says WiFi access but does that mean it's one of the pay $10 a day to use it type of things?

barn isn't super hot,,,power was sketchy first couple days,,I would bring generators and misters ,,,,WiFi is free, but unreliable and sometimes slow,,,have not explored town much,,,but there is a waterpark right by grounds

We've used it for the last two State Fairs, while being located in two different locations in the barn. They use Big Ass fans (actual name brand) for moving air from ceilings while having doors open for natural ventilation. We've had some hot fair days and it was respectfully comfortable. Their show ring area is large and has A/C. Sometimes it even feels cold in there, and the calves respond to the cool temps when they enter the show ring so hang on! They also have large screen TVs/informational boards both in the barns and in the show ring. It helps you follow what is going on in the ring, even when you are out in the barn working animals. I'm not sure if they use it for all events. I have not used the wi-fi, so I can't help in those regards.
Grand Island has a number of restaurants and a mall that are about 5 miles northwest of the fairgrounds. Everything from Buffalo Wild Wings to Fuji Steakhouse to a variety of fast food. I like the Chicken Coop Sports Bar downtown, their Totally Jack Burger is excellent. The town has made big strides in the last 10 years and has a nice variety of food and entertainment for a 40,000 people community near the middle of nowhere.
